The Freight Rate Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Mississauga, ON. This role is responsible for analyzing freight costs, preparing rate quotations, and maintaining up-to-date pricing for LTL and Truckload services across Canadian and U.S. lanes. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing customer inquiries, negotiating rates with internal stakeholders and external partners, and ensuring that pricing aligns with company margin and service objectives. The specialist will collaborate closely with operations, sales, and customer service teams to support bids, tenders, and ongoing contracts. Additional responsibilities include tracking market trends, updating rate tables, validating accessorial charges, and responding promptly and professionally to customer rate and service questions.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication and Customer Service skills to interact effectively with clients, internal teams, and carrier partners.
- Solid Analytical Skills to review cost structures, evaluate margins, and interpret freight rate trends and data.
- Knowledge of Supply Chain Management principles, including transportation, logistics, and freight optimization.
- Understanding of Export and cross-border freight processes between Canada and the United States.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and pricing tools (e.g., Excel or similar), and ability to work with TMS or ERP systems.
- Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple rate requests and deadlines.
- Previous experience in transportation, logistics, or freight pricing is preferred; exposure to LTL and Truckload operations is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in business, logistics, supply chain, or a related field is an advantage.
