Role Description The Estimator role at Nova Drywall Ltd. is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Area. The Estimator is responsible for reviewing architectural drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, and preparing accurate cost estimates for drywall, framing, and related scopes of work. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing project requirements, requesting and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotes, and preparing detailed bids and proposal documents. The Estimator collaborates with project managers, site supervisors, and the management team to support budgeting, scheduling, and value engineering efforts. The role also involves maintaining estimate records, updating cost databases, and participating in bid reviews and project handover meetings to ensure smooth execution.
Qualifications
- Strong estimating and takeoff skills, including the ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings and prepare detailed material and labor quantities.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software, spreadsheets, and other digital tools used for bid preparation and cost analysis.
- Solid understanding of drywall, framing, and general construction methods, local building codes, and industry standards.
- Effective analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities to compare quotes, assess risks, and develop accurate, competitive pricing.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills to prepare professional proposals and coordinate with internal teams and external partners.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Previous experience as an estimator or in a related construction role (drywall, framing, general contracting) is an asset.
- Familiarity with Canadian construction practices and the Greater Vancouver market is beneficial.
