We’re looking for an experienced Compositing Department Supervisor to come lead our comp team at NOX VFX. We’ve got a steady stream of episodic projects rolling in, and we need someone who can help us run the department day-to-day while shaping how we grow, build out our workflows, and level up our artists.
If you’re a seasoned comp artist who loves solving tricky shots, mentoring people, and keeping the vibe chill and collaborative without sacrificing quality, we’d love to talk.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the Team: Keep the comp team grounded, supported, and moving in the same direction. Help artists grow their skills and navigate tough shots without the high-stress drama.
- Guide the Work: Keep a close eye on 2D workflows across our episodic shows to make sure the work coming out of the department looks killer and stays consistent.
- Partner Up: Work directly with VFX Supervisors and Production to figure out shot approaches, bid timelines, and realistic delivery targets.
- Fix the Pipeline Friction: Spot bottlenecks before they turn into fires. Set up solid Nuke templates, standard practices, and smarter comp setups to make everyone’s day easier.
- Get Hands-On: Jump on the box to comp complex or hero shots when needed, set up visual benchmarks, or help push critical deadlines over the line.
- Keep Quality High: Run reviews, give clear/constructive feedback, and sign off on shots so they look photorealistic and seamless.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of episodic comp experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisor spot.
- Serious Nuke wizardry. You know Nuke inside and out - both creatively and under the hood.
- A sharp photographic eye. Deep understanding of camera optics, lenses, lighting, retiming, depth of field, and color space to make CG and live-action blend seamlessly.
- Good human skills. You know how to give feedback that inspires rather than stresses people out, and you keep communication straightforward and honest.
- Production tools comfort. Experience using ShotGrid / Flow (or similar tracking tools) to keep shots organized.
Nice-to-Haves
- Interest in GenAI & Emerging Tech: Curiosity or hands-on experience using GenAI tools, ComfyUI, or AI-assisted workflows integrated into compositing setups.
- 3D CG Awareness: You don't need to know how to model or texture, but a basic understanding of 3D passes, lighting, and general CG workflows is handy.
- Tech Skills: Python scripting, building custom gizmos/tools, or working with Nuke particles.
- Teaching Spirit: Enjoy making quick guides or video walkthroughs to onboard artists or share cool tricks.
Where You'll Work
- Location: You must live in British Columbia and be legally eligible to work in Canada. Preference will definitely go to folks based in or near Vancouver.
- Work Setup: Hybrid (WFH & In-Office). We like having flexibility, but we give strong preference to people who can swing by the Vancouver studio regularly to hang with the team in person.
Legal Bits
- Due to BC tax credit requirements, you need to be a BC resident and eligible to work in Canada.
- NOX VFX is an equal opportunity employer committed to a fair and accessible workplace under the BC Human Rights Code.
- Thanks to everyone who applies! We’ll reach out directly to candidates selected for an interview.
