Role Description The Tool and Die Maker is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. This role is responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in the production of braking components. Typical tasks include reading and interpreting technical drawings, setting up and operating conventional and CNC machines, performing precision machining and fitting, and verifying dimensions using appropriate measuring instruments. The Tool and Die Maker will troubleshoot tooling issues on the production floor, collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to improve tool performance, and ensure all work meets safety, quality, and productivity standards. The role also involves documenting work performed, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in tool and die making, including precision machining, fitting, and assembly of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Proficiency in operating conventional and CNC equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, and related machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications with high accuracy.
- Competence in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) and performing quality checks.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, metal properties, heat treatment, and production workflows.
- Commitment to workplace safety practices and familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and capability to diagnose and correct tooling and production issues.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineering, production, and maintenance teams.
- Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship or equivalent technical training; trade certification or license is an asset.
- Previous experience in automotive or heavy industrial manufacturing environments is an advantage.
