Nuytco Research Ltd. is seeking a hands-on Electrical or Embedded Systems Engineer/Technologist to join our engineering team developing advanced underwater technologies, including Atmospheric Diving Suits (ADS), underwater acoustic communication systems, subsea lighting, and other marine systems.
This is a highly varied engineering position. Depending on the project, you may be designing electronics, laying out PCBs, writing embedded firmware or Windows software, building and testing prototypes, troubleshooting production systems, or supporting equipment aboard ships and at customer sites.
We are looking for someone who enjoys designing, building, programming, troubleshooting, and improving real-world systems, rather than working exclusively in one engineering discipline.
What You'll Work On
- Analog, digital, embedded, and power electronics
- Circuit design, PCB layout, prototype development, and production support
- Embedded firmware development in C
- Windows application and engineering software development in C#
- Sensors, communications, instrumentation, power conversion, and control systems
- Underwater acoustic communication systems, subsea lighting, and Atmospheric Diving Suit electronics
- Testing, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement of existing products
- Field testing, commissioning, and customer deployments
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation and is comfortable moving between software, electronics, and practical hands-on engineering work.
Experience or demonstrated ability in several of the following areas would be valuable:
- Embedded programming and microcontroller development
- Analog, digital, or power electronics design
- PCB design and layout
- Electronics troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other test equipment
- Soldering, rework, prototype assembly, and general hands-on fabrication
- Serial, Ethernet, or other embedded communications
You do not need experience with every item above. More important is the ability to understand unfamiliar systems, troubleshoot problems methodically, learn new technologies, and take increasing ownership of engineering work.
Experience with Microchip PIC/dsPIC, MPLAB X, Visual Studio, KiCad, GIT, AutoCAD, Solidworks, OpenPNP and CNC faberication equipment, is an asset, but experience with these specific tools is not required.

This is intended to be a long-term position. The successful candidate will initially work closely with senior engineering staff and gradually take increasing ownership of product development, production engineering, troubleshooting, and field deployments as their experience with our systems grows.
We are looking for someone interested in developing deep knowledge of our products, becoming increasingly independent, and growing with the company over the long term.
Travel & Field Work
This position includes occasional field work and international travel, typically several weeks per year, supporting equipment deployments, testing, and customer operations.
Some projects involve work aboard ships and at Canadian and international naval, military, government, and other secure customer facilities.
Candidates must:
- Hold or be able to obtain a valid passport
- Be willing and able to travel internationally
- Be comfortable working aboard ships and in offshore/marine environments
- Be able to safely perform hands-on field work, including equipment installation, preparation, and deployment
- Be able to satisfy customer, government, military, and facility-specific security and access requirements, including background screening where required
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Education & Experience
A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, Embedded Systems, or a related discipline is preferred. We are open to both experienced candidates and strong earlier-career candidates with demonstrated practical technical ability.
Practical ability matters to us. We are particularly interested in candidates who can show things they have personally designed, built, programmed, tested, or troubleshot. Personal projects, robotics, electronics, programming, fabrication, and other hands-on engineering experience are valuable.
Scuba diving certification or experience with diving, boating, marine operations, or offshore work is an asset, but not required.
Compensation
Starting compensation is $30–$45/hour, depending on experience and demonstrated capability.
Compensation is reviewed following a six-month probationary period, with opportunities for increased compensation and responsibility as the successful candidate becomes more independent and takes greater ownership of engineering and field work.
