Role Description The Cost Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Windsor Metropolitan Area. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for tooling and plastic part projects, including labor, materials, and overhead, to support bids, proposals, and internal planning. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing technical drawings and specifications, collaborating with engineering, production, and purchasing teams, and evaluating supplier quotes to ensure accurate pricing. The Cost Estimator will track and update cost data, monitor project cost performance, and assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality. The role also involves preparing clear cost reports, supporting budgeting activities, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimation processes and tools.
Qualifications
- Strong cost management and cost control skills to develop, review, and maintain accurate cost structures.
- Proficiency in project estimation and budgeting to support quotes, proposals, and financial planning for complex tooling projects.
- Advanced analytical skills to interpret technical drawings, assess risks, and validate assumptions used in cost models.
- Experience with manufacturing or industrial environments, preferably in tooling, plastics, automotive, or related sectors.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and procurement, and communicate cost-related insights clearly.
- Comfort with relevant software tools (e.g., Excel, ERP/MRP systems, estimation software) and strong numerical accuracy.
- Post-secondary education in engineering technology, manufacturing, finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, and capacity to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
