Join our Canadian Regional Support Office as a Senior Accountant! You’ll play a key role in overseeing and maintaining the accuracy of financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies, supporting financial reporting, and assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and audit activities. This role plays a key part in strengthening internal controls, improving financial processes, and providing financial insight to support decision-making.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial results and explain variances against budget and prior periods.
- Assist with the preparation of management reports and board reporting packages.
- Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable accounting standards.
General Ledger Management
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Monitor balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Support the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts.
- Assist department leaders with budget preparation and monitoring.
- Analyze actual results against budget and provide recommendations.
Accounts Receivable and Revenue
- Monitor accounts receivable balances and collections.
- Reconcile customer accounts and investigate outstanding balances.
- Review revenue recognition and deferred revenue schedules where applicable.
Accounts Payable and Expense Management
- Review and approve accounting transactions for accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor expense coding and ensure adherence to organizational policies.
- Assist with vendor management and payment processes.
Audit and Compliance
- Coordinate external and internal audit activities.
- Prepare supporting documentation for audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, tax, and reporting requirements.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of internal controls.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting efficiency.
- Assist in implementing accounting systems and process enhancements.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
Team Support
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
- Assist with training and development of accounting team members.
- Serve as a key resource for accounting and financial inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Canadian work authorization
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation (completed or in progress) preferred.
Experience
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and audits.
- Experience in nonprofit, educational, or multi-entity organizations is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS and accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
