Use your digital platform to share stories of the persecuted church
We have a wonderful opportunity to serve Open Doors Canada simply by spending time on social media. The more individuals who will like, comment, & share Open Doors Canada’s social media posts will expand our reach even further.
Vision
We desire that all Canadian Christians would make praying and supporting the persecuted church part of their DNA. Your willingness to volunteer for Open Doors on social media will help us make that a reality.
Responsibilities and Expectations
A social media influencer uses their online presence to encourage others to remember and pray for the persecuted church.
Each year we have three key events that we hope to engage increased participation:
- January – World Watch List Launch
- June – One With Them Challenge
- November – International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP Sunday)
Preferred
For each of these events we ask that you as an ambassador share what you can on your preferred platform, tagging Open Doors Canada in the process so we can like your posts/repost. And throughout the year, here’s a look at the various social media platforms Open Doors Canada uses and what you can do to be an influence:
Facebook
- Like. This is the easiest task – if you’re on Facebook, we’d love for you to like at least three posts a week.
- Comment. Facebook loves comments and shows posts with more comment engagement more often. If you’re on Facebook, we’d love for you to comment on at least one post a week.
- Share. Facebook shares help expand the reach of the original post. We’d love for you to share posts that move you on your timeline.
- Create your own Facebook post. This brings new content and new people to hear about Open Doors. Facebook values post on personal profiles higher than posts on pages, so your post on your timeline is likely to have a larger reach than a normal post. If you’re on Facebook, we’d love for you to create your own post once a month. We’ll make sure you have the necessary resources and stories to share about!
Instagram
- Like, comment, share, and save our posts to help us on the algorithm.
- Create your own post either on your feed or on your stories about the persecuted church. When you create these posts, please tag @opendoorscanada in both stories or feed posts. We’d love for you to post once a month – and again, we’ll make sure you have the resources to do so.
LinkedIn
- Follow us, like, comment, and share our content.
- If you use LinkedIN, we’d love for you to create your own post once a month and tag Open Doors.
Person Specification
- Passionate for God and the persecuted church
- Willing to commit to the 7 values of Open Doors Canada and be a trusted ambassador for persecuted Christians
- Able to take direction and work as part of a team of Open Doors staff and other volunteers
- Self-motivated to do the required learning
- Enthusiastic and willing to serve, with a positive outlook
- Reliable and good at timekeeping
- Active on social media platforms, mainly Instagram and Facebook
- Friendly and approachable manner
Competencies
- Able to communicate in a clear, concise way on camera and via text (posts)
- Able to tell learned stories in their own language for their social media followers
- Can create posts and upload them to social media
Accountability and Resources
Role
We want to help you be successful in this role, so here are some of the ways we’ll help you to be a social media influencer for ODC:
- We’ll create regular social media content that you want to like, comment and interact with
- We’ll make sure that our website has updated content that you can read and use to create your own posts
- You’ll be invited to a ODC social media team WhatsApp chat where you can share your thoughts, create ideas for posts and inspire one another. We will also keep you updated on upcoming events and initiatives you can use to make your own posts.
