Stardust Metal is a gold exploration company working on active drilling programs in the Kirkland Lake area on the world-class Cadillac Break. The Company is advancing its McGarry, Omega and Kirkland Lake West projects with ongoing exploration and resource work.
The Role
The Junior geologist will be responsible to provide geological support to the exploration team that will focus on logging exploration drill holes using MXDeposit software QGIS and datamine Studio Geo, spotting diamond drill holes, surface mapping and sampling and other assigned duties.
Responsibilities:
- Core Logging (Rock type, textures, alterations, structures, veining, sampling, etc).
- Surveying of Drill hole collar locations and aligning of drilling direction.
- Perform all geological work (core logging, mapping, sample collection, QAQC, Surface Exploration, channel sampling) and following CIM guidelines for best practice.
- Record and collect high quality, detailed data along with rock and soil samples for geochemical analysis. Utilize scientific principles and knowledge during sample collection.
- Use of a compass, maps, and handheld Garmin GPS.
- Ability with geological modelling software and core logging software (MX deposit, Datamine, QGIS) and data management skills.
- Complete daily data entry and quality control checks.
- Field oversight of diamond drilling program.
- Data entry and management of drill hole databases
- Geological surface mapping, rock sampling, soil surveys, and other field duties
- Prepares samples and paperwork for submission to analytical laboratories
- QAQC tracking and analysis
- Report preparation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High safety standard.
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geosciences or equivalent required.
- One to two years of exploration experience
- Geological Knowledge of economic mineral systems
- Proficient with common computer skills including preparation of documents and presentations, spreadsheet use, database data entry, and email use.
- Skill using or ability to learn industry-standard software packages (MxDeposit, Datamine, QGIS).
- Appropriate knowledge of the principles and practices of geology
- Effective communication and organization skills.
- Ability to work in adverse weather and terrain.
- Work will from time to time be in an outdoor setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Valid driver’s licence and comfort with bush road navigation and Skiddo, boat and ATV use
Work Conditions
- Day shift
- Schedule tied to drilling programs
- May include extended shifts during active exploration
- Combination of core shack and field work
Compensation
Compensation is competitive and includes base salary, performance-based bonus, and equity participation, commensurate with experience.
