DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Our client, an established and growing financial services business, is seeking a Director of Finance to help shape the next stage of its finance function. This is an opportunity to take ownership of core accounting operations, work closely with senior leadership and make a visible impact through better processes, stronger controls and a capable, accountable team.
The role offers scope for someone who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with a practical approach to execution and change. You’ll have the opportunity to simplify how work gets done, introduce automation and build processes that support continued growth.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, you will oversee financial reporting and accounting operations, leading through two direct reports and a broader finance team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close activities across multiple entities, ensuring accurate, complete and timely financial reporting.
- Strengthen balance sheet integrity through thorough account reconciliations, detailed financial reviews and timely resolution of outstanding items.
- Improve close processes by establishing clear timelines, consistent procedures and accountability across the team.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and automate manual accounting and reporting activities, improving accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide technical accounting guidance, including the application of U.S. GAAP, and support accounting assessments and documentation for management and external auditors.
- Oversee cash management and key reconciliation processes, maintaining effective controls and clear supporting documentation.
- Deliver meaningful financial analysis, explaining revenue, margin, expense and cash flow drivers.
- Partner with corporate finance and external business partners to meet reporting requirements and resolve accounting matters.
- Lead, coach and develop the finance team, strengthening ownership, collaboration and execution.
WHAT YOU BRING
You are a technically strong accounting leader who enjoys working closely with the team and understands the detail behind the numbers. You can identify where a process is breaking down, develop a practical solution and bring people with you through the change.
Your background includes:
• A university degree in Business or Accounting and a CPA designation, with Big Four experience required.
- Seven to twelve years of progressive management experience, with broad knowledge of corporate accounting and financial management.
- Strong technical accounting skills, including U.S. GAAP, financial reporting and internal controls.
- Direct responsibility for close processes, reconciliations and the quality of underlying accounting records.
- Demonstrated success improving processes, reducing manual work and strengthening reporting discipline.
- Proven people leadership, including coaching teams and holding others accountable for deadlines and deliverables.
- Strong Excel and ERP systems capabilities; exposure to Microsoft NAV or Workday would be an asset.
- Excellent communication skills and the judgment to manage competing priorities, build relationships and escalate issues appropriately.
Experience in an entrepreneurial, growing business would be particularly valuable. Insurance industry experience is welcome but is not essential.
