About Oxford HR Group

Oxford HR Group is a trusted HR and health & safety advisory firm serving organizations across Southern Ontario. Our clients come to us with their most difficult people concerns & problems: a workplace investigation that has to be handled right, a pay equity plan that is overdue, a safety program that would not survive an inspection. They hand those problems to us because they trust us to hold them carefully and to deliver work that stands up to scrutiny.

Our work spans fractional HR leadership, workplace investigations, compensation and pay equity, policy development, and occupational health and safety advisory services. We are a small firm with high standards, and we are growing.

About the role

We are looking for a consultant who is competent in both HR & Safety. Not an HR professional who once sat on a JHSC, and not a safety professional who has skimmed the ESA. Someone who has done the work on both sides, can walk into a client site and be credible in the boardroom and on the shop floor in the same visit.

You will be the trusted advisor to leadership teams across a wide mix of industries. Some days that means leading a sensitive workplace investigation from intake through to a defensible written report. Other days it means building a pay equity plan, reviewing a safety program against the OHSA, or coaching an owner through a difficult employee decision. The common thread in all of it is trust. Clients tell us things they have not told anyone else, and this role only works if people feel safe doing that with you.

This work also takes a spine. Sometimes the job is telling an owner that their best performer is the problem or writing an investigation finding you know an opposing lawyer will read. We say the difficult thing, we say it kindly, and we stay impartial even when a client would prefer a different answer. If that sounds uncomfortable but right, keep reading.

What you will be doing

Workplace investigations: Lead investigations into harassment, discrimination, and misconduct complaints, from planning and interviews through to clear, well-evidenced, impartial, and defensible reports.
Compensation and pay equity: Build salary structures, conduct benchmarking, and develop and maintain pay equity plans that meet the requirements of the Ontario Pay Equity Act.
Health & safety advisory: Assess client safety programs against the OHSA and applicable regulations, close gaps, support JHSCs, and help clients build safety systems that actually get used.
Fractional HR leadership: Serve as an embedded HR partner to client leadership teams, advising on employee relations, performance management, terminations, policy, compliance, and more. See risks coming and name them early, rather than waiting to be handed the crisis.
Policy and program development: Draft and refine policies, procedures, and handbooks to our gold standard: complete, accurate, and specific enough to be followed, all while embedding client values and culture into the words.
Client relationships: Build the kind of trust that turns a one-time crisis engagement into a long-term partnership.

Who you are

Disarming. You build trust fast and put people at ease, even on their worst day. Witnesses open up to you. Nervous owners exhale when you walk in. You make hard conversations feel survivable.
Excellence-driven. You treat "good enough" as the starting line. Your work is accurate, polished, and defensible every time, including on the day nobody would notice if it slipped. The citation is checked. The documentation is complete.
Trustworthy. You handle sensitive information with discretion, fairness, and follow-through. Clients feel safe handing you their hardest problems because you have shown them, repeatedly, that you can be counted on.

A few more things that matter here. You own your errors before anyone finds them, and you account for your work honestly whether or not someone is checking. You finish what you start without being chased, and you are curious enough to keep learning as the legislation keeps moving. When you notice a gap, you close it or say plainly that you cannot. And nobody at this firm says that was not my task.

What you bring

A degree or diploma in human resources, occupational health and safety, labour relations, or a related field.
CHRL designation (required).
A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience spanning both human resources and occupational health & safety.
Hands-on experience conducting workplace investigations, including interviewing and report writing. This is a must.
Practical experience in compensation and pay equity, including Ontario Pay Equity Act compliance. This is also a must.
Strong working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, WSIA, and the Canada Labour Code.
Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, in writing and in person.
The ability to travel to client sites across Ontario.
Willingness to complete background or security clearance checks as required by client engagements.

Strong assets

CRSP or CRST designation. If you hold one of these alongside your CHRL, we would be very glad to meet you.
Experience with federally and provincially regulated employers, non-profits, and government.
Prior consulting experience serving multiple clients at once.

Position details

Employment type: part-time. Hours will vary in the beginning.
Compensation: $38.00 to $48.00 per hour
Location: Remote within Southern Ontario, with regular travel to client sites.
