Job Purpose
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated English ss A Second Language Teacher to join our team at Oxford International Vancouver. In this role, you will play a vital part in helping learners improve their English language skills and achieve their academic and professional goals.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach and prepare for lessons as scheduled and in accordance with OI standards and policies
- Prepare weekly lesson plans in advance, recording on the Virtual Learning Campus (VLC) by noon each Friday ahead of the forthcoming week, and implement in accordance with the OI Code of Professional Conduct, and OI Curriculum Manuals
- Maintain student records and class binders. File all lesson activities master and exercises in the corresponding week of the class binder for the appropriate level
- Gather, prepare and photocopy materials required for each class for the following day before leaving each day
- Keep Class Profiles and records via the VLC up-to-date for use by teaching staff and administration.
- Maintain Class Binders in a neat and orderly fashion with all documents filed under the appropriate tabs and on the appropriate shelf in the Resource Room
- Perform administrative duties including administration, VLC management, supervision, collection, marking and recording of tests.
- Supervise students before, during and after classes to ensure that they are speaking English and following the OIEG/VMLLC Rules & Regulations and reprimand students appropriately if they do not comply.
- Mark student tests and assignments, accurately recording the results and filing where necessary.
- Accurately record attendance for each class on designated attendance sheets
- Interview and assess students to determine their levels and progress,
- Complete evaluation reports on specific students when requested by the appropriate Academic Director, Senior Management or President
- Organize, implement and supervise extra-curricular activities from time to time.
- Ensure any posters created for the advertising of an activity is of a professional quality.
- Accurately update student levels on VLC every week. This will include an OIPRM test and Progress test
- Conduct weekly 1-2-1 meetings with students, and bi-weekly Tutorials, recording notes on the VLC for every Tutorial.
- Make recommendations to the appropriate Director regarding any students in need of counseling for academic or other reasons.
- Participate in the development of OI/VMLLC Curriculum when requested by the Managing Director or Director
- Complete all reports and duties outlined in the Teacher Induction Guide, Job Description and the OI Employee’s Manual.
- Oversee the facilitation of student inquiries and enforce school rules and regulations (including the English Only Policy).
- Perform weekly team planning meetings and communicate daily with team teachers, as required.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Perform any other duties as assigned within the allotted scheduled blocks.
- Participate in the activities program at least once per month as outlined in the Social Program Participation Policy and Procedures
- Uphold OI rules, regulations, policies, procedures and standards at all times.
- Maintain current knowledge and skills as they relate to industry trends, methodology, issues, programs, etc.
- Ensure that VMLLC/OI rules, regulations, policies, procedures and standards are upheld at all times.
- Ensure all correspondence (e.g. student requests) receive a response within one business day.
- Meet budget and expense management requirements and policies at all times
- Maintain classrooms and common areas in accordance

Legal status
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- Clear background or criminal record check
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree;
- TESL or CELTA certification.
Experience and knowledge
- Proven experience teaching English as a Second Language to adult learners.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging learning environment.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are an asset.
