PACT (Pearson Accelerator Construction Team) is a General Partnership of Alberici, Amico, Kenaidan, and Obayashi, supported by design partners Egis, Mott MacDonald, and Weston Williamson + Partners. Together, we are delivering Accelerator, a major program of Pearson LIFT (Long-term Investment in Facilities and Terminals), Toronto Pearson's infrastructure development plan. This multi-year program is designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while preparing Canada’s largest airport for the future of air travel - including critical upgrades to airfield and infrastructure, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, modernization of Terminals 1 and 3, and the creation of a world-class passenger experience.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Design Coordinator will support the Design Manager in the successful delivery of the Interim Infrastructure Sub-Program within the Accelerator Program. The role will provide day-to-day design coordination and interdisciplinary coordination support across multiple projects and technical disciplines, ensuring that design activities, stakeholder requirements, constructability considerations, cost inputs, risks, and deliverables are effectively coordinated and aligned with contractual requirements and program priorities.
The Senior Design Coordinator will work closely with the Design Managers from the DJV and CJV teams to facilitate timely resolution of issues and maintain alignment between design development and construction delivery.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment and has strong experience coordinating complex infrastructure and/or building systems projects. They bring a proactive, positive, and solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to work effectively across large and diverse project teams. They understand that successful project delivery requires more than a technically sound design and are able to take a holistic view of project priorities, including constructability, cost, schedule, stakeholder requirements, risk, quality, and client objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Design Manager in managing interdisciplinary design coordination in accordance with the contract requirements, design management procedures, and project objectives.
- Monitor design coordination activities and proactively identify issues, gaps, and interfaces requiring management attention.
- Ensure design teams understand and maintain alignment with project priorities, requirements, milestones, and deliverables.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of design coordination processes, including action tracking, interface management, design reviews, and issue resolution.
- Escalate significant design issues, risks, or potential impacts to the Design Manager in a timely manner.
- Support the Design Manager in managing the full lifecycle of design development from concept through Issued for Construction (IFC).
- Support effective communication between the design team and project stakeholders to facilitate timely decisions and resolution of outstanding matters.
- Monitor design deliverables against established milestones, stage gates, and project schedules.
- Facilitate collaboration between design, construction, procurement, project controls, and operations teams.
- Assist with implementation of design interfaces between multiple workstreams, contracts, and sub-programs.
- Ensure design changes that may affect construction activities, sequencing, access, phasing, procurement, or cost are appropriately identified and communicated.
- Support the construction team in obtaining timely design clarifications and coordinate responses with the appropriate design disciplines.
- Identify design risks, conflicts, and constraints and escalate issues to design managers and sub-program leadership.
- Support implementation of design assurance and quality management processes.
- Participate in value engineering, design optimization, and constructability review initiatives.
- Coordinate and track design submissions through all project stages, including concept design, schematic design, design Development, construction documentation, and IFC packages
- Follow up with design disciplines to keep deliverables on track and support timely recovery of at-risk activities.
- Identify dependencies between design activities, stakeholder decisions, procurement, construction, cost, and other program functions. Assist with preparation of design status reports, dashboards, and management presentations.
- Support implementation of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
- Participate in 3D model integration, clash detection reviews and resolution processes.
- Ensure design information is properly managed within project document management systems.
- Support digital coordination initiatives that improve design quality and efficiency.
- Work closely with GTAA representatives, consultant partners, AHJ, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Assist in maintaining alignment between design intent, operational requirements, stakeholder expectations, and construction execution.
- Support construction teams by resolving design issues during procurement and construction phases.
- Assist with review of shop drawings, technical submittals, and contractor proposals.
- Coordinate incorporation of field feedback into design development activities.
- Participate in lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support design changes, non-conformances, and technical clarifications.
- Support with other duties as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position will be based at our office in Mississauga, Ontario, with visits to the Airport site as required. Your work schedule will be Monday to Friday during regular office or site hours. At times, operational needs may require work outside these hours, with reasonable notice provided. All schedule or on call adjustments will comply with applicable employment standards legislation. It is mandatory for all employees to complete a Criminal Background Check and successfully attain a Restricted Access Identity Card (RAIC) upon joining the company.
DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in design coordination within a construction environment.
- Strong ownership and accountability; ability to stay ahead of issues, priorities, and actions, and drive them to closure.
- Strong coordination and communication skills; ability to support the Design Manager, maintain visibility of key issues, and escalate concerns with recommended solutions.
- Positive and solutions-oriented mindset; ability to build strong relationships, navigate challenges, and support the team in achieving practical, coordinated, and constructible solutions.
- Knowledge of document control systems and design review processes.
- Familiarity with design documentation, CAD drawings, and project workflows.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with GTAA or other major airport procedures is considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility for RAIC clearance required.
