Summary
About the Role – Assistant Rooms Manager
Salary Range: $55,000 ~ $65,000
As an Assistant Rooms Manager, responsible for the execution of all operations in the rooms area departments and managing staff. Strives to continually improve guest and employee satisfaction and maximize the financial performance of the department. Monitors compliance with standards and procedures. Leads specific team while assisting with meeting or exceeding property goals to ensure the smooth and efficient running of all operational aspects of the Rooms Division.
Some of the responsibilities include:
- Ensures all guest services are provided efficiently, courteously, and according to department standards.
- Works closely with Sales and Marketing to support the right market mix and maximize room revenue.
- Welcomes regular and VIP guests and supports a personalized guest experience.
- Coordinates with department heads to ensure groups, VIPs, and guests are handled accurately and promptly.
- Inspects hotel areas to ensure cleanliness, comfort, and guest amenities are maintained.
- Leads efforts to improve guest satisfaction.
- Monitors competitor hotels and business trends.
- Maintains strong relationships with travel agencies, local businesses, and airlines.
- Plans and supports upselling activities to increase room revenue.
- Builds relationships with current and potential guests.
Administration
- Maintains and updates the Department Operations Manual, policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Ensures the division’s administrative duties, records, and forms are properly maintained.
- Keeps guest history records accurate and up to date.
- Maintains the Guest Experience Management system.
- Prepares the annual Rooms Business Plan in line with the hotel’s goals and associate needs.
Payroll and Productivity Management
- Manages staffing and payroll effectively through proper scheduling, cross-training, and multitasking.
- Ensures productivity meets Hyatt standards and operational requirements.
- Manages payroll, utilities, equipment, and other costs responsibly.
- Supports the use of new technology and equipment to improve productivity.
- Reviews and approves invoices and purchase requests for Rooms equipment and supplies.
People Management
- Recruits, selects, trains, and develops Rooms associates.
- Supervises associates and ensures they follow hotel policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
- Delegates responsibilities appropriately while supporting associate development.
- Promotes company training programs and works with Learning and Development on training initiatives.
- Ensures Managers and Team Leaders actively support associate training and development.
- Provides training to improve associates’ skills and knowledge.
- Ensures associates understand and follow hotel rules and regulations.
- Monitors associate morale and provides regular feedback and coaching.
- Conducts annual performance reviews and provides honest, constructive feedback.
- Communicates the hotel’s values and guiding principles to all associates.
General
- Attends and contributes to meetings as required.
- Ensures all associates provide courteous and professional service.
- Responds to guest and associate concerns and ensures proper follow-up.
- Follows all applicable laws, hotel policies, and health and safety requirements.
- Supports the safety, development, and well-being of all associates.
- Maintains high standards of personal presentation and grooming.
- Builds positive relationships with guests and colleagues.
- Represents the hotel and Hyatt professionally at all times.
- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned and adapts to the changing needs of the hotel and industry.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2-5 years’ front desk experience as a hotel manager is preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word and hospitality software.
- A proven track record of being able to lead a team and to multitask.
- Flexibility and a willingness to work beyond scheduled hours, including on weekends.
- An ability to identify areas in need of change or improvement to offer guests an excellent hotel experience.
- Understanding of and compliance with hotel policies and regulations and communicating these clearly to the staff.
- Reporting on daily operations in a timely manner.
