Role Description The Associate Lawyer will be a full-time, on-site team member based in North Vancouver, BC, handling files in one or more of Pax Law Corporation’s practice areas, such as immigration and refugee law, civil litigation, commercial and business law, family law, criminal defense, real estate, or wills and estates. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing legal issues, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, contracts, affidavits, legal opinions, and other documentation, and managing case files from intake through resolution. The Associate Lawyer will appear before courts, tribunals, and administrative bodies as required, negotiate settlements, and liaise with opposing counsel, government agencies, and other stakeholders. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues, contributing to strategic case planning, maintaining accurate records and billing, and upholding professional and ethical standards in all aspects of practice.
Qualifications
- Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a lawyer in British Columbia, with good standing at the Law Society of BC (or equivalent eligibility); prior experience in one or more of Pax Law’s practice areas is strongly preferred.
- Strong legal research and analytical capabilities, including proficiency with legal databases, case law analysis, statutory interpretation, and preparation of well-reasoned legal arguments.
- Demonstrated skills in legal drafting and written advocacy, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate pleadings, contracts, submissions, and correspondence tailored to diverse audiences.
- Effective oral advocacy and negotiation skills, with experience appearing before courts or tribunals, conducting client meetings, and managing settlement discussions or mediations.
- Excellent client service and communication abilities, including active listening, managing expectations, explaining complex legal issues in accessible terms, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including managing multiple files, meeting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Comfort with law firm technology and tools, such as case management systems, document management platforms, video conferencing tools, and standard office software
