Remote | Full-time | Dispatch / Energy Operations
About the Role
We’re looking for an Electricity Power Dispatcher to own real-time monitoring and dispatch operations for our power generation assets.
This is a hands-on market operations role. You’ll continuously monitor unit output, electricity prices, and grid conditions, identify dispatch or curtailment risks, manage time-sensitive market submissions, and keep unit capability information current.
You’ll work closely with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and serve as a key point of contact between our operations team and the system operator.
This role is ideal for someone who understands both power generation operations and wholesale electricity markets and is comfortable making decisions in a time-sensitive environment.
What You’ll Do
Asset & Market Monitoring
Continuously monitor generating unit output, market prices, and grid conditions
Identify curtailment risks, dispatch signals, price movements, and other market anomalies
Proactively flag issues and recommend action within the same shift
Monitor market conditions between scheduled checks rather than relying only on system alerts
Escalate operational or market issues when appropriate
Timely Market Submissions
Prepare and submit offers, self-schedules, outage notices, and other required market filings
Cross-check submissions against the latest unit capability and availability information
Ensure all submissions are accurate and completed ahead of applicable deadlines
Identify and correct discrepancies before submission
Unit Capability Changes
Update unit capability and availability information when outages, derates, capacity tests, or other changes occur
Ensure the system operator has accurate and current information
Respond quickly to changes received during the shift
System Operator Communication
Act as a primary point of contact with the control room/system operator
Respond promptly to calls and clarification requests
Build a strong working relationship with the system operator
Communicate operational changes clearly and accurately
What We’re Looking For
Experience in power markets, electricity market operations, generation dispatch, energy scheduling, or power trading
Experience working directly with an ISO/system operator; AESO experience is strongly preferred
Understanding of wholesale electricity markets and real-time market operations
Experience monitoring generating assets and/or unit availability
Familiarity with market submissions such as offers, self-schedules, outage notifications, or capability updates
Strong ability to identify discrepancies and act quickly in a time-sensitive environment
Comfortable working independently during a live operating shift
Strong communication skills, particularly when coordinating with system operators and operations teams
Strongly Preferred
Direct experience with AESO
Experience with Alberta's electricity market
Experience in generation dispatch or real-time power market operations
Experience managing unit derates, outages, capability changes, or dispatch instructions
Experience in a control room or market operations environment

Employment: Full-time ( 12 Hour shifts - 3 to 4 days a week. Will be rotated accordingly)
