Background
- Peloton Search Partners has been retained to recruit an experienced professional to join a Toronto based investment team.
- Must have real estate deal experience and an established wider GTA network.
Overview
- Our client is a Toronto based, well-established investment firm providing structured debt and equity capital to mid-market and growth companies.
- The firm has a ~30-year track record raising committed capital from third-party investors (pension, institutional and family offices).
- The team has considerable expertise in real estate and infrastructure.
- The core strengths of the firm include ability to provide capital quickly and, if required, to customize each financing with flexible terms suited to the situation.
The Role
- The Senior Vice President is a senior, deal-facing leader responsible for originating, structuring, and executing debt and equity financings, and for managing client relationships.
- This is a highly visible and hands-on leadership role. The SVP will serve as a key point of contact with a network of referral sources (developers, accountants, lawyers, bankers) and potential clients (mid-market and high growth).
- The SVP will be supported by a pool of resources providing direction, mentorship, and oversight while remaining directly involved in the analysis and execution of transactions.
- The opportunity is best suited for an experienced professional who is a self-starter, with the ability to structure and underwrite opportunities in a timely manner. In addition, the successful candidate should have an extensive network and deep expertise in the real estate sector.
Key Responsibilities
Origination and Business Development
- Build a pipeline through direct outreach and a network focused on the broader GTA real estate market.
Structuring and Execution
- Design capital structures, including senior/subordinated debt, mezzanine, asset-backed, and equity capital.
- Develop the optimal capital structure for new investments, including financial modelling, valuation, and credit analysis; pricing, covenants, security, and downside protections.
- Manage diligence end to end, coordinating legal, accounting, tax, and technical advisors.
- Prepare and present investment committee materials and defend recommendations.
- Negotiate term sheets and definitive documentation through to funding.
Portfolio Management and Value Creation
- Oversee monitoring of covenants, liquidity, and operating performance across assigned investments.
- Identify follow-on financing opportunities within the existing portfolio.
Leadership
- Mentor and develop analysts and associates.
- Contribute to firm strategy, process improvement, and investor materials as required.
Candidate Profile
- The Firm seeks to hire an individual who is highly motivated, intelligent and has demonstrated excellence within the GTA real estate sector. The successful candidate should have:
- ~10-15 years of experience in private credit, equity investing, specialty finance, mezzanine or subordinated debt, corporate banking, restructuring, or related structured-finance discipline. All with a focus on the real estate sector.
- Proven track record of originating and closing mid-market financings (debt and equity), with a preference for individuals who have personally originated transactions.
