About The Peterborough Family Health Team
Peterborough Family Health Team (PFHT) is a collaborative primary care organization that works alongside family physicians and community partners to provide comprehensive, team-based care to the residents of Peterborough and Peterborough County. Our interdisciplinary team works together across multiple clinical sites.
PFHT supports clinical excellence, innovation, and digital health solutions that enhance patient care, improve provider workflows, and protect the privacy and security of health information.
Overview
The IT Support Technician works under the technical guidance of, and in collaboration with, the Information Technology Specialist and reports to the Finance & Business Manager. The incumbent provides front-line technical and operational support across PFHT and partners with Family Health Organizations (FHOs) in Peterborough and surrounding areas.
This is a permanent part-time position (.6 FTE; 22.5 hours per week) working throughout the City and County of Peterborough.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & End-User Support - Provide timely remote and on-site technical support to PFHT employees, physicians, and staff within partnering FHOs.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, telephone, connectivity, system access, and other day-to-day technology issues.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, maintenance, and deployment of computers, printers, mobile devices, phones, and other technology equipment.
- Support user account setup, system access, permissions, and technology-related onboarding and offboarding.
- Escalate complex or higher-level infrastructure, system, cybersecurity, and technical issues to the Information Technology Specialist.
FHO & Multi-Site Support - Provide front-line IT support to partnering FHOs and physician offices throughout Peterborough City and County.
- Travel between clinical locations to provide troubleshooting, equipment setup, maintenance, and other on-site support.
- Support physicians and staff with day-to-day technology needs and help identify issues requiring further assessment by the Information Technology Specialist.
- Assist the Information Technology Specialist with equipment replacements, office changes, system implementations, and other technology projects.
- Liaise with external vendors as directed or required to resolve technical issues.
Systems & Infrastructure Support - Assist the Information Technology Specialist with the ongoing support of computers, printers, phones, networking equipment, Microsoft 365, secure fax, and other technology infrastructure.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of wired and wireless networks, VPN access, internet connectivity, and related systems.
- Assist with equipment deployment, replacement cycles, technology inventory, and system documentation.
Clinical & Digital Health Systems - Provide front-line technical support for EMR systems, clinical applications, and digital health tools.
- Assist with system access, upgrades, testing, implementation, and user support or training.
- Escalate system or workflow issues requiring advanced technical support and assist with resolution as directed.
Cybersecurity & Privacy - Follow established PFHT cybersecurity, privacy, and information security policies and procedures.
- Assist with routine endpoint security, software updates, encryption, malware protection, and user access requirements.
- Identify and promptly escalate potential cybersecurity or privacy concerns to the Information Technology Specialist and/or appropriate organizational lead.
- Reinforce established cybersecurity practices when providing technical support to users.
Hours of work
Hours of service are pre-established per employment agreement and may require some evenings and weekends. Any deviation from the established schedule shall not negatively impact upon the provision of service to the patient population.
Qualifications
Education & Experience - Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Computer Science, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
- Experience providing technical or help-desk support in a professional environment.
- Experience troubleshooting computers, software, peripherals, networks, and user-access issues.
- Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications and Windows-based computing environments.
- Experience working in healthcare and/or multi-site environments is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting EMR systems or digital health applications is considered an asset.
Skills & Competencies - Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Ability to work independently and determine when issues require escalation.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment where timely technical support is important to operations and patient care.
- Demonstrated discretion when working with confidential information.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, physicians, and external partners.
Working Conditions - In-person position based in Peterborough, Ontario.
- Regular local travel is required to provide on-site IT support to PFHT and partnering FHO locations throughout Peterborough City and County.
- Access to reliable transportation is required.
- Work is performed across a variety of clinical and office environments.
- Some physical activity may be required when installing, moving, or replacing computer and technology equipment.
- Occasional after-hours support may be required for system upgrades, implementations, or urgent technical issues.
