Petra Engineers and Consultants is a Calgary-based engineering consulting firm providing professional engineering and technical services to clients across industry. We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our growing team.
Position Overview
The Engineer-in-Training will support engineering projects from concept through design, documentation, and execution. The successful candidate will work with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams and will have opportunities to develop practical engineering skills across a range of projects.
We welcome candidates with an academic background in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering who are interested in building their professional engineering career in Alberta.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist professional engineers and piping designers with engineering design, calculations, analysis, and technical documentation.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and other project deliverables.
- Support project planning, coordination, and execution.
- Perform engineering calculations and technical evaluations under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Participate in site visits, inspections, data collection, and field activities as required.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines.
- Assist with equipment selection, technical specifications, and engineering studies where applicable.
- Ensure engineering work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
- Participate in technical meetings and contribute to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work under the supervision of Professional Engineers while progressing toward professional registration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- APEGA registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is required or strongly preferred.
- 1–2 years of relevant engineering experience preferred; recent graduates with strong academic and technical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them to practical problems.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with engineering design and calculation software is an asset.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
