Maintenance Lead, Duvernay
PetroChina Canada (PCC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of PetroChina Company Limited which is partially owned by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a state-owned enterprise. CNPC is China's largest oil company and the world's third largest oil company, operating 91 energy-related projects in over 35 countries and regions. PCC has invested billions of dollars in an asset-rich portfolio of upstream, midstream and downstream operations. In Alberta, this includes our MacKay River and Dover oilsands projects, Duvernay Shale Gas and a 50% interest in the Grand Rapids Pipeline. In British Columbia, we hold joint venture interests in the Groundbirch tight gas project and LNG Canada.
PetroChina Canada is recruiting for a Maintenance Lead, Duvernay to join the Duvernay Team at our Duvernay Operations site, near Fox Creek, Alberta.
Reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Coordinator, the Maintenance Lead is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership, coordination, planning, and execution oversight for maintenance activities within the assigned Duvernay operating area. The successful candidate will possess broad maintenance expertise and demonstrate leadership across multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation.
The Maintenance Lead is accountable for ensuring the safe, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant maintenance of production and infrastructure assets. This role serves as the primary liaison between Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Construction, Supply Chain, and Management, ensuring maintenance priorities are effectively identified, planned, scheduled, resourced, executed, and closed out.
Key responsibilities include driving maintenance excellence, optimizing asset performance and reliability, supporting operational goals, and fostering a strong culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Accountabilities
The accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the development and execution of the area maintenance planning in alignment with Operations and production priorities.
- Coordinate weekly and daily maintenance planning meetings with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other stakeholders.
- Support outage, turnaround, major repair, and shutdown planning activities as required.
- Coordinate maintenance coverage, manpower requirements, and contractor support to meet operational demands.
- Own and coordinate the area Preventive Maintenance (PM) program within the SAP system.
- Review Preventative Maintenance frequencies, task lists, job plans, and maintenance strategies to ensure they remain appropriate for equipment operating conditions and criticality.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, operating efficiency, and maintenance cost.
- Lead maintenance material planning to ensure required parts and consumables are available when maintenance work is scheduled.
- Coordinate and delegate day-to-day maintenance activities in alignment with operational priorities.
- Support Operations with troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process-related issues.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure applicable Management of Change (MOC) processes are followed for maintenance-related equipment, process, and procedural changes.
Qualifications
Education
- Journeyperson certification in a relevant mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation trade, with dual-trade certification preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of applicable experience in oil and gas site operations, with strong knowledge of production facilities maintenance, maintenance practices, and asset reliability.
Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of process facilities and field operations within the oil and gas industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in the maintenance, design, operation, and optimization of oil and gas production facilities and associated infrastructure.
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to evaluate opportunities and provide economically sound recommendations for maintenance, reliability, and capital projects.
- Proficient in computer applications such as SCADA systems, logbook/elogger, prometheus etc
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience with SAP Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve equipment and operational issues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with diverse teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical and operational information.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing business needs, and perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
