Piper Companies is seeking a
Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer to join an innovative organization in the biotechnology and agriculture industry who can work in a
hybrid setting with regular onsite collaboration in Durham, NC and partner with business leaders to develop and improve software, business applications, and enterprise systems that support commercial and operational teams. The ideal Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer will help drive technology solutions that simplify processes, improve efficiency, and support continued business growth in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities of the Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer:
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into technology solutions.
- Design, develop, and maintain full-stack applications, including backend services, databases, APIs, and user interfaces.
- Configure, customize, and support business applications, ERP platforms, and SaaS solutions.
- Build and maintain integrations between enterprise systems to improve data flow and business processes.
- Evaluate solution options and recommend whether custom development or existing software best meets business requirements.
- Work with stakeholders to balance priorities, align requirements, and implement practical solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts and system designs to both technical teams and business users.
- Contribute to software quality through testing, documentation, and maintainable coding practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve business processes, system performance, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications of the Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer:
- 4+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, business applications, or related technical roles.
- Experience designing and delivering full-stack software solutions from requirements through deployment.
- Hands-on experience with ERP, CRM, or SaaS platforms such as NetSuite, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, SAP, or similar systems.
- Experience building integrations using APIs, web services, data pipelines, and automation tools.
- Strong understanding of software development best practices, database design, and system architecture.
- Proven ability to work directly with business stakeholders and deliver solutions that improve operations.
- Familiarity with version control, software testing, and modern development workflows.
- Experience with cloud technologies, AI-assisted development tools, or process improvement methodologies is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Compensation for the Senior Business Systems & Software Engineer includes:
- Salary range: $110,000 - $150,000 base salary (depending on experience)
