Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced Shop Foreman to lead our maintenance team and keep our equipment safe, reliable, and ready for the field.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands heavy equipment, knows how to manage a busy maintenance shop, and can effectively lead mechanics, apprentices, and shop personnel.
You’ll be responsible for coordinating daily shop operations, assigning work, managing priorities, supporting field repairs, ensuring quality and safety standards are met, and working closely with Operations, Dispatch, Fleet, and Maintenance leadership.
You’ll lead the team - but you’re not afraid to turn a wrench when needed.
What You’ll Do
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and support Heavy Equipment Technicians, apprentices, mechanics, and shop hands
- Assign daily work and prioritize repairs based on equipment needs and operational requirements
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and workmanship
- Address day-to-day employee concerns and provide coaching and direction
- Approve or recommend overtime and additional manpower when required
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and a strong safety culture
- Support the development and training of mechanics and apprentices
Shop Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee the daily operation of the maintenance shop
- Review, assign, and prioritize work orders and maintenance requests
- Monitor repair progress and ensure work is completed within required timelines
- Coordinate equipment movement in and out of the shop
- Ensure equipment is properly inspected, repaired, and ready for field deployment
- Coordinate and support CVIP inspections and compliance requirements
- Assist with troubleshooting and major mechanical repairs when required
- Support field mechanics and operations with technical and mechanical issues
- Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend preventative maintenance solutions
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with Operations, Dispatch, Fleet, and Field Supervisors to understand equipment requirements and priorities
- Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and potential delays to leadership
- Coordinate with Parts personnel to ensure required parts and materials are available
- Communicate with vendors and service providers when outside repairs or specialized services are required
- Escalate major mechanical, safety, or operational concerns to the Maintenance & Repairs Manager
Safety & Quality
- Promote and enforce Pitbull’s Safety Above All Else culture
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Conduct or participate in shop inspections, hazard assessments, and safety meetings
- Ensure technicians follow proper lockout/tagout, PPE, confined space, working-at-height, and other applicable safety procedures
- Inspect completed repairs and ensure work meets company quality standards
- Ensure equipment is safe and mechanically ready before being released to the field
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, and equipment documentation are completed accurately
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts, labour, and equipment downtime
- Monitor shop productivity, equipment downtime, repair timelines, and other maintenance KPIs
- Use company systems such as SiteDocs and Aimsio to maintain accurate records and support maintenance operations
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Maintenance & Repairs Manager
What You Bring
- Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) certification is preferred
- Valid CVIP licence/certification is required
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean 5-year driver’s abstract
- Proven supervisory or Shop Foreman experience in a heavy equipment maintenance environment
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Experience working with oilfield, industrial, heavy equipment, trucks, water trucks, vac trucks, trailers, or similar equipment is considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment readiness
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service information
- Proficiency with mechanical diagnostic tools and equipment
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn and use maintenance management systems
- Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Dispatch, Fleet, and Field teams
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol Test
- Willingness to work overtime and participate in on-call requirements as needed
- Ability to obtain and maintain the following safety certifications is required:
- H2S Alive
- Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
- CSO (Common Safety Orientation)
- Confined Space Entry and Monitor
- Criminal Record Check may be required
Working Conditions
- Primarily based in the Leduc maintenance shop
- Hands-on leadership role with regular involvement in mechanical repairs and troubleshooting
- May be required to attend or support field locations to assist with equipment breakdowns, troubleshooting, inspections, or repairs
- Exposure to heavy equipment, trucks, tools, shop environments, and outdoor field conditions
- Physically demanding environment involving lifting, bending, climbing, confined spaces, and working at heights
- Fast-paced environment with changing operational priorities
- Overtime and on-call availability may be required
