JOB PURPOSE:
- The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of products by maintaining the standards of measurement tools, and internal corrective actions leading to process improvements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accountable - Advocate for safety by ensuring all safety procedures and policies comply with provincial standards.
- Perform calibration of Internal gauges according to Polycorp established procedures.
- Review existing calibration methods and create new WI for new gauges when needed.
- Finding new accurate gauges and supplier based on needs of Polycorp product
- Assist with Internal Non-conformance report (NCR) after any Non-conformance identification
- Consult with other functions about the best methods affecting quality, product acceptance, rework instructions, etc.
- Partner with R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and design teams to build quality into new products and resolve operational issues
- Create a Compound Weight summary based on monthly compound audit report
- Perform layered and internal process audits for each process and machinery
- Assist in the Management of the Corrective Action System
- Support all 8D corrective action activities and lead internal 8D investigations as assigned.
- Strong shop floor presence
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to reduce waste, optimize workflows, and improve overall product reliability
- Monitor scrap, rework, customer complaints and Cost of Poor Quality.
- Determine appropriate inspection and testing methods for new and existing products
- Analyze data collected from audits, non-conformances, and corrective actions to summarize and share with a cross functional team.
- Inspection of Mining, lining and rail products as required
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control systems, procedures and work instructions, and compliance frameworks like ISO 9001
- Provide support and guidance to JQE’s
- All other duties as required.
SKILLS, EDUCATION, COMPUTER & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor or Master Degree in engineering with 3-5 years manufacturing experience
- 3-5 years of manufacturing engineering or QA engineering experience
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Computer literacy – reports, charting, etc
- Proven ability to problem solve
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLES – PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of formulating, mixing, processing and testing of rubber compounds
- Knowledge of metals would be an asset
- Lean Six Sigma training is an asset
