Under the leadership of the Vice President, Environment & Sustainability, the incumbent is responsible for providing environmental leadership for major project proposals and execution. This role oversees the environmental management team assigned to major projects, ensures the delivery of environmental requirements for qualifications and proposals, and leads the implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 certification requirements.
What you will do
- Support qualifications, proposals, and the production of environmental deliverables.
- Lead and mentor a team of Environmental Directors assigned to major projects, supporting their development, challenges, and growth opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with partners, project teams, and clients to drive the environmental success and performance of large-scale projects.
- Support the resolution of technical and strategic environmental and sustainability issues.
- Actively support the Major Projects business unit during extended committee meetings and operational reviews by communicating project performance and environmental challenges.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS) in compliance with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Verify environmental compliance on major projects through internal audits and support the resolution of identified non-conformities.
- Work with Project Directors to identify and allocate the environmental resources required for project success.
- Contribute to the annual management review of the Environmental Management System.
- Support the Communications team in managing reputational issues, environmental concerns, complaints, and stakeholder inquiries.
- Participate proactively in meetings with regulatory authorities, clients, and senior leadership, and contribute to communications and decision-making related to environmental compliance and project management.
- Share lessons learned and best practices while contributing to the continuous improvement of operations.
- Collaborate with Environmental Directors across other business units to maintain a dynamic, engaged, and high-performing environmental department.
- Support business development initiatives and strengthen relationships with strategic partners.
This role could be for you if you have
- A university degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in the environmental sector.
- Proven experience leading teams and managing personnel.
- Experience in the construction industry and on large-scale infrastructure or major projects.
- Envision certification knowledge or experience is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of environmental issues and impacts affecting the construction industry.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and regulations.
- Knowledge of marine construction, contaminated soil management, and environmental permitting is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English.
- Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work with rigor and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated versatility, initiative, and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary construction teams.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- A positive mindset and a solution-oriented approach to challenges.
