Role Description The Estimator role is a full-time, on-site position based in Calgary, AB. This role is responsible for reviewing architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents to prepare accurate material takeoffs and cost estimates for stair and railing projects. Day-to-day activities include analyzing project requirements, preparing quotations, updating estimate records, and collaborating with sales, project management, and production teams to ensure estimates align with client needs and company standards. The Estimator communicates with customers and suppliers to clarify scope, pricing, and timelines, and helps identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining product quality. The role also involves tracking bid status, supporting negotiations, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, including the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications and perform detailed material takeoffs.
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets (e.g., Excel), and general office productivity tools used to prepare and manage quotations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams, clients, and suppliers and to clarify technical and commercial details.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple bids, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Attention to detail and quality focus to ensure estimates are accurate, consistent, and aligned with project requirements and company standards.
- Relevant experience in construction, millwork, or architectural products; experience with stairs and railings or related trades is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in construction technology, engineering, estimating, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Comfort working on-site in a manufacturing or construction-oriented environment and commitment to safe work practices.
