Project Controller
Location: Edmonton, AB - Canada (on-site)
Compensation: $90,000 - $115,000 CAD
Schedule: Full-time, onsite. Standard business hours expected.
We are seeking a Project Controller to support the financial performance and reporting of a diverse portfolio of projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Sales, and Finance teams to ensure accurate financial tracking, budget management, forecasting, reporting, and project profitability.
The successful candidate will have experience in project-based environments and possess strong analytical, financial, and communication skills.
Responsibilities
Financial Monitoring and Budget Management
- Monitor and assess the financial performance of assigned projects.
- Track project budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts.
- Identify budget variances and potential cost overruns.
- Provide recommendations to mitigate financial risks and improve project outcomes.
- Support project teams with financial planning and forecasting activities.
Project Evaluation and Reporting
- Prepare project financial evaluations and performance analyses.
- Develop periodic reports for management regarding project financial status and budget variances.
- Analyze project profitability and provide insights to support decision-making.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial information is available to key stakeholders.
Work-in-Progress (WIP) Administration
- Review and monitor work-in-progress against project budgets on a regular basis.
- Ensure project costs and financial data are accurately reflected in reporting systems.
- Identify opportunities for invoicing and support project billing activities.
- Partner with Finance and project teams to ensure accurate revenue and cost tracking.
Process Improvement
- Contribute to the identification and implementation of process improvements.
- Participate in discussions regarding enhancements to reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial control processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across project and finance functions.
Qualifications
- Degree, diploma, or equivalent education in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Experience in Project Controls, Project Accounting, Cost Control, Project Finance, Financial Analysis, or related fields.
- Experience working within a project-based organization.
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial reporting.
- Experience with ERP systems and project financial management tools.
- Knowledge of Acumatica ERP is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate reporting in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
