Primary Purpose Of Position
The Health & Safety Coordinator will support all health and safety and environmental related initiatives on worksites, ensuring all employees are provided a safe work environment. This role will also be responsible for achieving and maintaining compliance with company, customer and regulatory guidelines. This includes but is not limited to conducting all new and refresher training for all personnel on required Health & Safety procedures and practices; ensuring all inspections and audits are conducted as scheduled or required by law; ensuring all vehicle, equipment and materials are operated and handled according to governmental, manufacturer, and company policies and programs. The Health & Safety Coordinator will promote and foster accident prevention through continuous review of conditions and behaviors.
Job Duties
- Promote and foster the attitude that Health & Safety first is paramount in everything we do.
- Coordinate and conduct formal Health & Safety orientations, work site inspections, accident/injury reports and train the trainer Health & Safety talks pertaining to the designated functional area.
- Apply client safety standards and protocols.
- Reporting safety performance to internal and external clients.
- Support project management team with all safety related processes associated with their projects.
- Organize and conduct training programs including, but not limited to: WHMIS, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid.
- Monitor employees and subcontractors on site to ensure compliance to Health & Safety procedures and programs and escalate issues to resolution as required.
- Proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations and take necessary measures to correct them.
- Ensure timely completion of accident/injury reporting.
- Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.

- Minimum of 5 years’ related experience in the areas of OHS Act and regulations applying to construction workplaces.
- Demonstrated experience in worksite audits, accident investigations, health and safety policy and program development and implementation, training delivery, collaboration on project management teams, and WSIB claims administration.
- Degree or Diploma in a related field (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety, Certified Safety Engineer)
- Common Core training is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to travel locally for work (GTA); a valid G driver’s license and own vehicle required
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work flexible schedule as projects require including some weekend, early morning/evening hours.
- Must be able to obtain and retain Security Clearance, as required
- Enthusiasm for challenges and new initiatives
Work Conditions
- This position will be based in the office, but many of the activities associated with the role will require attendance on project sites.
