We're looking for a Junior SQL/ETL Developer for a 6 months contract with high possibility of extension. Role is hybrid with 2 days a week on site in Downtown Toronto.
This role is ideal for a hands-on data professional who enjoys working with complex datasets, building reliable ETL processes, solving data issues, and partnering with both technical and business teams. You will play an important role in ensuring data is accurately transformed, validated, and delivered to downstream reporting and enterprise data platforms.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, develop, and enhance ETL workflows and data integration processes that bring together data from multiple sources.
- Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, transformations, and data-processing logic.
- Investigate data discrepancies and perform reconciliation, validation, and quality checks to ensure data accuracy.
- Troubleshoot production and development data issues and identify opportunities to improve the performance and reliability of SQL and ETL processes.
- Work with Business Analysts, Data Engineers, developers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective data solutions.
- Contribute to data migration, reporting, regulatory, and enterprise data initiatives.
- Support existing data processes while delivering enhancements and new functionality based on evolving business needs.
- Apply established financial-services standards around data governance, security, controls, and compliance.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Document technical solutions, data processes, and development activities as required.
What You Bring
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in SQL and ETL development.
- Strong SQL skills, including complex queries, joins, stored procedures, transformations, and query/performance optimization.
- Professional experience with an ETL/data integration platform such as Informatica, DataStage, SSIS, or a comparable technology.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing, data modeling, ETL architecture, and data quality principles.
- Previous experience working within banking, financial services, or another highly regulated data environment.
- Experience with data validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum delivery environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with Netezza or similar enterprise data warehouse technologies.
- Exposure to AWS and cloud-based data platforms.
- Experience supporting financial reporting, regulatory reporting, or other banking data initiatives.
- Familiarity with enterprise data governance and controls within a financial institution.
