THE OPPORTUNITY
The Project Manager will join the Project Management team within Kemway and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. This role sits at the center of Kemway's project delivery, taking on secured work from pre-construction and owning it through to successful, on-time, on-budget completion.
The Project Manager will review blueprints and design documentation early to catch potential flaws before they become costly problems, then work closely alongside the Site Superintendent to manage scheduling and keep execution on track. This individual will also own estimation and budget management, source and contract sub-trades, and serve as the primary point of contact for both clients and sub-trades throughout the life of a project.
Kemway's culture is entrepreneurial and collaborative, and this role suits someone who thrives in a smaller, close-knit company where relationships and hands-on ownership matter more than hierarchy. At any given time, the Project Manager will typically carry 1 to 3 projects, ranging from commercial and industrial renovations to larger, more complex builds, with the largest projects generally not exceeding $50M annually.
Success in this role requires strong financial acumen, comfort with technology (including MS Office and ERP systems), sharp critical thinking, and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients and stakeholders alike. RESPONSIBILITIES
Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:
Pre-Construction and Project Handoff
- Work closely with the pre-construction team at project initiation to ensure a smooth and complete handoff.
- Take full ownership of the project once it transitions from pre-construction, carrying it through to successful execution.
- Review blueprints and design documentation thoroughly to confirm scope and requirements are well understood.
Design Review and Quality Assurance
- Review blueprints and drawings to identify design flaws or inconsistencies before construction begins.
- Flag and resolve potential issues early in collaboration with the appropriate stakeholders.
- Ensure design intent is carried through accurately during execution.
Project Scheduling
- Work alongside the Site Superintendent to develop and manage the project schedule.
- Monitor progress against the schedule to keep the project on track for on-time completion.
- Proactively identify and address scheduling risks or delays.
- Manage scheduling challenges as they arise, such as sub-trades not showing up as planned, quickly problem-solving and adjusting to keep the project on pace, on time, and on budget.
Estimation and Budget Ownership
- Own the project estimation process and take full responsibility for budget management.
- Track costs closely to ensure the project remains on budget throughout its lifecycle.
- Apply strong financial acumen to make sound, informed decisions on project spend.
Sub-Trade Sourcing and Contracting
- Source and contract sub-trades required for successful project execution.
- Manage sub-trade relationships and performance throughout the project.
Client and Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the direct point of contact for clients, maintaining clear, professional, and confident communication.
- Communicate directly with sub-trades to ensure alignment and smooth coordination.
- Articulate project updates, decisions, and issues effectively to all parties involved.
Project Execution
- Ensure the project is completed effectively, meeting expectations for schedule, budget, and quality.
- Apply critical thinking to solve problems as they arise throughout the project.
- Lead with strong influence to keep teams and stakeholders aligned and motivated.
FIRST YEAR – MEASURES OF SUCCESS
- You are viewed as a strong, capable leader by the Site Superintendent team, earning their confidence through consistent follow-through and sound decision-making.
- Leadership consistently receives feedback that you are on top of project details, with strong accuracy in scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.
- You integrate well within Kemway's small, close-knit, entrepreneurial team, building genuine working relationships across the organization.
- Projects are consistently delivered on schedule and within budget, even when navigating unexpected challenges.
THE INDIVIDUAL
Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:
Education
- Post-secondary education in a related field, such as construction management, engineering, a construction-related trade or business is required.
Experience
- A journeyman trades background, such as a carpenter, would be considered an ideal fit given the practical, on-the-ground perspective it brings to project execution with a requirement to be proficient in technology.
- Alternatively, experience in a Project Management role within the construction or sub-trade industry would be ideal.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, with an eye for detail and an understanding of how a change in one area of a project can have a cause-and-effect impact elsewhere.
- Must have proficiency in MS Office, including strong Excel skills, with comfort working with numbers and financial data.

LOCATION

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position will be in-office with some local on-site travel within Edmonton and area. A vehicle is a requirement of this role.
