Company Description ProjectGenova is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young people create, innovate, and lead through free, hands-on learning experiences in technology, design, science, and leadership. Its programs move beyond traditional classroom theory, encouraging learners to build projects, solve real problems, collaborate with mentors, and turn ideas into action. Learning pathways are tailored by age and stage, from early confidence and creativity (ages 6–8), to exploration and skill-building (ages 9–12), to advanced pathways and future readiness (ages 13–16 and adults). This summer, ProjectGenova is launching CampNova, a flagship event that introduces Ontario youth to practical experiences in innovation and creative problem-solving. The organization partners with schools, educators, community groups, volunteers, industry leaders, and sponsors who share its mission to unlock the potential of every generation.
Role Description The Virtual Instructor (on-site, Canada-based) volunteer role supports CampNova and other ProjectGenova learning experiences by guiding youth through structured, hands-on activities in tech, design, science, and leadership. Instructors facilitate workshops, lead small-group sessions, and provide individual support to help learners understand concepts and complete projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing lesson materials, setting up learning spaces, delivering clear instructions, monitoring participant progress, and encouraging collaboration and problem-solving. The role also involves coordinating with other volunteers and staff, giving constructive feedback to learners, and helping ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. This is a volunteer, on-site role located in Canada, with schedules aligned to program times and event needs.
Qualifications
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, hands-on learning activities in technology, design, science, or leadership.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and classroom or group management skills to support diverse youth learners.
- Experience mentoring, tutoring, or teaching young people in informal or formal education settings.
- Comfort collaborating with staff, volunteers, and community partners in a team-based environment.
- Commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning spaces for participants of all backgrounds.
- Organizational skills for preparing materials, following schedules, and documenting learner progress when needed.
- Familiarity with basic digital tools (e.g., presentation software, online collaboration platforms) is an asset.
- Prior experience in youth programs, camps, education, or community outreach in Canada is beneficial.
- Ability to meet any applicable local requirements for working with youth, such as background checks.
