Production Manager $90000 - 130000/yr based on experience
ProMart Industrial Products Ltd. | Sarnia, Ontario
ProMart is growing, and we are looking for an exceptional Production Manager to help lead the next chapter of our fabrication operation.
This is not a role for someone who wants to manage production from an office.
We are looking for someone who knows fabrication, understands people, can walk a shop floor and immediately see where things are working, where they are not, and what needs to happen next.
Someone who can take a complicated workload, competing priorities, manpower, equipment, material and deadlines and turn it into a clear plan that the entire shop can execute.
Most importantly, we want a leader.
ProMart has been fabricating in Sarnia since 1985. Today, we operate from an approximately 80,000 square foot facility with significant CNC processing capability, automated equipment, structural and miscellaneous fabrication, welding, coatings, detailing and field operations.
We are continuing to invest heavily in our people, equipment and facility as we expand further into nuclear, energy, mining, data centres, industrial construction and other major Canadian projects.
The person stepping into this role will have a major influence on where we go next.
What You Will Own
The Production Manager will be responsible for the day to day performance of our fabrication operation and for building the systems, discipline and culture required to support continued growth.
You will:
- Lead production across our fabrication shop and work closely with supervisors, lead hands, project management, detailing, quality, estimating, purchasing and senior management
- Build and maintain a clear production plan based on project priorities, available manpower, material, equipment capacity and required delivery dates
- Own shop loading and continually balance workload between work centres, crews and shifts
- Drive productivity, throughput and schedule performance without sacrificing safety or quality
- Identify bottlenecks early and take action before they become project problems
- Ensure supervisors and lead hands have clear daily and weekly priorities
- Develop meaningful production metrics and use them to improve performance, not simply report numbers
- Improve workflow from material receipt through processing, fitting, welding, inspection, coating and shipment
- Work closely with Project Managers to make sure production commitments are realistic and being achieved
- Coordinate manpower requirements, overtime, shift coverage and future hiring needs
- Help develop our supervisors, lead hands and future production leaders
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility
- Help integrate new automation, CNC equipment and robotic welding technology into our production processes
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organization, equipment utilization and shop discipline
- Work closely with Quality to ensure production requirements align with CWB, ISO, nuclear and project specific quality programs
- Take real ownership of results
Who We Are Looking For
The right person will probably have spent a significant portion of their career in fabrication, manufacturing, construction or another complex industrial production environment.
You understand that managing a fabrication shop is different from managing repetitive manufacturing.
Every project is different. Priorities change. Drawings change. Material moves. Customers need answers. Equipment goes down. Projects compete for the same resources.
Great production leaders bring order to that complexity.
We are looking for someone with:
- Strong experience leading production in structural steel, heavy fabrication, plate fabrication, pressure equipment, industrial manufacturing or a similar environment
- A strong understanding of fitting, welding, CNC processing, material flow and fabrication sequencing
- Proven experience managing supervisors, tradespeople and production teams
- Strong scheduling and capacity planning ability
- The ability to read drawings and understand fabrication requirements
- A practical understanding of labour hours, productivity, efficiency and production costing
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both the shop floor and senior management
- The confidence to make decisions and hold people accountable
- A continuous improvement mindset
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Experience with structural steel fabrication, CWB requirements, automated fabrication equipment, ERP/MRP systems, coatings, nuclear quality programs or highly regulated industrial work would be considered a major asset.
The Person We Want
We are not looking for someone who simply maintains the status quo.
We want someone who gets excited when they see an opportunity to make a shop better.
Someone who cares about how material moves through the building.
Someone who notices when a machine is sitting idle.
Someone who wants to understand why a job burned more hours than expected.
Someone who develops people instead of just directing them.
Someone who can challenge the team when expectations are not being met while still earning the respect of the people doing the work.
Someone who takes pride in seeing a difficult project leave the shop safely, on time and built properly.
If you are the type of production leader who walks through a fabrication shop and immediately starts thinking about how to improve it, we want to talk to you.
Why ProMart
There is a lot happening here.
We are investing in robotic welding, automated CNC material handling, advanced cutting and processing equipment and major facility improvements.
We are strengthening our position in Canada’s nuclear supply chain while continuing to grow across energy, mining, industrial construction, data centres and other major markets.
We have a strong backlog of work and significant opportunities ahead of us.
But equipment alone does not build a great fabrication company.
People do.
We want to build one of the best fabrication operations in the country, and we are looking for a Production Manager who wants to help us do exactly that.
Location: Sarnia, Ontario
Position: Full Time, Permanent
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience, plus benefits and additional compensation opportunities
If you have built teams, improved production and know how to get the best out of a fabrication operation, send us your resume.
We would much rather speak with an exceptional production leader who is ready for a bigger opportunity than someone who simply checks every box on a job description.
Heavy steel. Higher standards.
