You have spent years building relationships. You know the difference between someone who takes your call because they're being polite and someone who genuinely trusts you with their business.
You have built a network. You know who the decision-makers are, who actually influences business, and where to spend your time. You've probably walked into rooms where nobody knew you, built credibility, earned people's trust and eventually become the person they call when they need something done.
And you have learned something along the way: relationships are only valuable when you know how to turn them into something meaningful.
But you have probably been doing more than maintaining those relationships, too.
You have organized events because you knew bringing the right people together would create opportunities. You've introduced people who should have known each other. You've identified gaps in a territory and figured out how to get in front of the people who mattered. You've built your own tracking systems because nobody was keeping track of which relationships were actually generating business.
Nobody had to tell you to do those things. You understood that growing a business takes more than showing up and exchanging business cards.
Now imagine joining a company that's hiring you specifically because of that instinct.
What this role actually is:Most people who buy or sell a home don't independently choose their real estate lawyer. Somebody they trust, usually a realtor or mortgage broker, tells them who to call. That's how a significant amount of business comes through the door.
We want to be the name they recommend.
You will own our referral partnerships across the western Greater Toronto Area, building relationships with realtors, mortgage brokers and other professionals who influence where real estate legal work goes.
Your job is to grow those relationships into a consistent source of business for Property Law.
That means getting out into the market, visiting brokerages, meeting with realtors and brokers, attending industry events, organizing gatherings and introducing our legal team to the people who can become long-term referral partners.
You will decide which relationships are worth investing in, where the biggest opportunities are and how to position Property Law as the firm people want to recommend.
Nobody signs a contract with us. Nobody is obligated to send us business. Your job is to make our relationships worth more to them than any alternative, earn their trust and, when the opportunity is there, ask for the business.
You will also be building the function itself. Some relationships already exist, but the systems, processes and programs to support a structured referral partnership strategy still need work. You will have the freedom to develop those, introduce new initiatives and figure out what works for your territory.
You will work alongside an experienced business development leader who has spent decades building relationships across the Ontario real estate industry. There's a tremendous amount of industry knowledge to learn from, but we also want someone who brings their own ideas, challenges existing approaches and helps turn that experience into something scalable.
This is not a traditional sales role. We aren't looking for someone who measures success by the number of meetings they have or business cards they collect. We're looking for someone who understands that strong relationships should ultimately translate into business growth.
What this role requires:You should apply if:- You have spent significant time managing a territory, portfolio or book of business involving independent professionals, franchisees, brokers, advisors, dealers, clinic owners or similar relationship-driven partners.
- You can point to specific examples of how you have turned professional relationships into actual business growth.
- You are comfortable asking for business directly. You understand the difference between being personable and being commercially effective.
- You know how to identify valuable relationships, prioritize your time and focus on opportunities that will generate results.
- You are confident walking into a room, starting conversations and building credibility with people you have never met.
- You are comfortable organizing events, developing partnership initiatives and finding creative ways to keep your network engaged.
- You are naturally proactive. You don't wait for someone to hand you a list of contacts or tell you who to call next.
- You can build your own systems, track your relationships, measure results and report on what is actually generating business.
- You are comfortable working independently, making decisions and taking ownership of your territory.
- You are based in or willing to work from our Mississauga office, have a valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable access to a vehicle.
You do not need experience in real estate or the legal industry. We will teach you that part. What we can't teach is years of experience building relationships, earning trust and knowing how to win business.
This role is not for you if:- You need a commission attached to your compensation. We need someone who is naturally driven by growth and opportunity.
- You measure success by how many contacts you’ve collected over meaningful relationships that generate business.
- You are uncomfortable asking for business directly. Being friendly is important, but so is knowing when and how to make the ask.
- You measure success by how many meetings you have rather than the business those relationships generate.
- You need a fully established territory, existing processes and a detailed playbook handed to you. You're going to help build those.
- You prefer working behind a desk or from home most of the week. This role requires you to be in the office and regularly out in the market.
- You need constant direction or supervision. You'll have support, but you'll be expected to own your territory and take initiative.
About Property LawWe are a national residential real estate law firm, but we don't operate like a traditional law firm.
We are far from the big downtown firms with layers of hierarchy and the "that's how we have always done it" mentality. We are a growing business that believes in good people, fresh thinking, strong relationships and finding better ways to do things.
We operate across Ontario and Alberta, with plans to continue expanding.
Our business is built around making real estate transactions easier for clients and the professionals who refer them to us. We understand that when a realtor or mortgage broker recommends a law firm, they are putting their own reputation on the line. We take that responsibility seriously.
You will sit within our Marketing & Business Development function, reporting to the Head of Marketing & Business Development and working closely with the COO.
Your work will be visible, your ideas will matter, and you will have the opportunity to shape how Property Law develops and grows its referral partnerships.
