The Charge Nurse is an experienced Registered Nurse who works under the direction of the Program Manager to coordinate the delivery of high quality inter-professional patient/client centered care on an assigned unit. The Charge Nurse supports the efficient operation of the unit and facilitates change through continuous quality improvement to meet the care needs of our patients/clients.
Skills And Qualifications Required
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred and current, unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- 2 - 5 years recent and related clinical experience
- Previous experience in leadership roles
- Previous participation on inter-professional committees
Position Responsibilities
- Supports and empowers staff as a role model, to contribute to the delivery of high quality care.
- Provides clinical front-line expertise in all aspects of care delivery within the unit.
- Promotes the use of the College of Nurses of Ontario Three Factor Framework (client, nurse and environment) for patient/client assignment decision-making.
- Assists the Program Manager in providing leadership within the practice setting by ensuring compliance of self and others with professional standards, legislation and the Mission, Vision and Values of Providence Care.
- Assigns staff-patient/client assignments, using the College of Nurses "Three Factor Framework".
- Ensures transfer of care for all patients/ clients has been completed at beginning and end of shift. Reports any concerns about staff not participating in shift change report to the Program Manager or delegate.
- Liaises daily with inter-professional team members regarding patient/client care issues.
- Coordinates, prepares for and participates in inter-professional care conferences and family conferences and other meetings/conferences as required; schedules/records next conference date.
