Original job description
Title: Inbound Sales Development Representative (SDR)
Company: Puzzle Financial Inc.
Location: Canada (Remote)
Job Type: Full-time
Compensation: $75,000–$85,000 CAD OTE/Year (uncapped commission) + benefits package
About Puzzle
At Puzzle, we're not just building accounting software - we're fundamentally reimagining it. Our cutting-edge platform seamlessly integrates with modern fintech tools, offering founders and finance teams a real-time and comprehensive view of their finances like never before.
Our mission is to empower businesses with seamless financial operations, realtime insights and free accountants from bookkeeping tedium. To help us achieve our goals, we're looking for an Inbound Sales Development Representative to turn the founders and operators who raise their hand into qualified conversations with our sales team.
What We're Looking For
Every week, founders sign up, request demos and ask questions about Puzzle. How fast and how well we respond decides whether they become customers. You'll be the first person they talk to: you'll respond quickly, find out what they need, and book the right ones with our Account Executives.
This role is for someone who likes speed and conversations equally. Our inbound leads range from first-time founders who've just incorporated to finance leads at Series A companies. You'll need to quickly tell who's a fit and who isn't, and make every conversation useful either way.
You'll be measured on meetings booked and meetings attended. This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing startup, sharpen the inbound process rather than just follow it, and build a sales career at the intersection of accounting and fintech.
What You'll Do
Speed to Lead & Follow-Up
- Respond to demo requests, signups, and chat conversations within minutes during business hours
- Work every inbound lead to a clear outcome: booked, nurtured, routed to self-serve, or disqualified
- Work the existing pipeline to make sure every lead has a proper follow-up, so no lead goes untouched or falls through the cracks
- Follow up consistently with leads who go quiet, by email, phone, and chat
Qualification
- Run short discovery calls to understand each lead's entity type, funding stage, monthly spend, current bookkeeping setup, and what prompted them to look now
- Spot the triggers that make a business ready for Puzzle: a fresh raise, first payroll, a tax deadline, or outgrowing spreadsheets
- Recognize when a lead isn't a fit and point them somewhere helpful
Meetings Booked & Attended (Primary Metric)
- Book qualified meetings with Account Executives, with clear context so the AE walks in prepared
- Confirm meetings and reduce no-shows through reminders and pre-call touchpoints
- Track your booked-to-attended rate weekly and work to improve it
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Keep HubSpot clean and current.
- Share what you hear from leads with Marketing and Product: objections, competitors, and the questions that come up again and again
- Partner with Marketing on lead scoring, routing, and follow-up sequences
Who You Are
- 1–3 years in an SDR, BDR, or other customer-facing sales role, ideally in B2B SaaS
- Fast, organized, and responsive. You treat a new lead like it's urgent, because it is.
- Curious in discovery: you ask good questions and listen before you pitch
- Clear and honest about what Puzzle does and doesn't do
- Comfortable talking with founders and finance-minded buyers. You don't need to be an accountant, but you're excited to learn the basics.
- Coachable and metrics-driven, with a track record of hitting or beating targets
- Proactive self-starter who notices gaps in the process and suggests fixes
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience selling to startups or small businesses
- Familiarity with accounting concepts or tools (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar)
- Experience at a fintech, financial SaaS, or accounting technology company
- Familiarity with HubSpot, Intercom, and/or Gong/Fireflies
Your First 90 Days
- Weeks 1–2: Learn Puzzle, our ICP, and our qualification criteria. Shadow inbound calls and AE demos.
- Weeks 3–4: Start working inbound leads with support, audit the existing pipeline for missing follow-ups, and book your first meetings.
- Weeks 5–8: Own the inbound queue on your own and hit your meetings-booked target.
- Weeks 9–12: Hit your attended-meeting target and recommend at least one improvement to routing, follow-up, or qualification.
This role has a clear path to Account Executive.
