We are currently looking for a
Junior to Senior Testing Technician to join our Toronto, ON location. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has a technical diploma with four years of experience or more, working in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry, with knowledge of common ASTM, UL and CSA test methods relating to building products. Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.
DUTIES: The successful candidate will perform, but not be limited to, the following:Prepare and set up building product samples for testing, following drawings, and test procedures to nationally recognized building safety standards (CSA, UL, ASTM, etc.). Build test fixtures, frames, boxes, and other test setups needed to conduct the testing.Operate laboratory test equipment and instruments used to measure heat, moisture, air movement, temperature, and other physical properties. Build test bucks for windows and doors and document results of tests, inspections and evaluations. Perform physical testing of fenestration products (windows, doors, and skylights) to determine environmental performance of these products: Insulation materialsBuilding envelope materialsGuardrail systemsWindows and doorsSteel panel productsStructural panelsBecome familiar with the QAI quality system and administrative procedures. Be able to travel throughout Canada and the USA as business dictates. Be able to write and review concise, objective, and informative test reports, and documents. Perform factory inspections at remote client sites. Be able to interact effectively and professionally with customer and colleagues, as required. Must be willing to be part of an energetic team with a can-do attitude. Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will:Possess Technical Diploma in a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience. Preferably 1-3 years related experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry Knowledge of US and Canada building codes and referenced nationally recognized safety standards is a plus. Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards towards product certification, testing, and inspection. Possess superior MS Word and Excel skills, be proficient with Email and Adobe Acrobat. Possess “Good Laboratory Practice” skills essential for testing products. Possess good interpersonal and communication skills. Comfortable with flexible work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.
KEY COMPETENCIES Maintains a level of technical competence in the specified field of testing. Maintains a level of technical competence in the field of testing to ensure validity of test results. Conducts supervised and/or unsupervised testing, data analysis and test report preparation. Scope of technical authority shall be limited by the level of authorization as shown in the competency matrix. Assists the Project Manager, Engineer, or Operations/Division Manager in the supervision of testing, data analysis and test report preparation. Cooperates well with others and acts professionally
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Candidate must hold a valid driver's licenseForklift License preferred
Additional Assets include: Previous experience with construction materials and building code compliance practices in the US and Canada
