ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a fibre installation technician to support telecom projects in Vancouver, BC, on an on-demand contractor basis. The work involves routing fibre from outside plant (OSP) infrastructure into commercial buildings, including building entry points and demarcation locations. Assignments depend on project needs and your availability; hours and work volume are not guaranteed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install and route fibre optic cable from OSP infrastructure to building entry and demarcation points.
- Complete underground and building entrance installations, including conduit and innerduct placement.
- Splice, terminate and test fibre using an OTDR, optical power meter and visual fault locator (VFL).
- Install and maintain pedestals, handholes, vaults, risers and building entrance terminals.
- Follow route maps, drawings and work orders; coordinate site access and work with the project team.
- Follow site safety procedures, including ladder, lift and confined space requirements, and perform only work for which you are trained and authorized.
- Submit test results, site photos, as-built updates and accurate job completion records.
REQUIREMENTS
- At least six months of experience in OSP construction, cable installation or telecom fieldwork.
- Practical knowledge of fibre splicing, termination and testing equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and at heights or in confined spaces when required, with appropriate training and safety measures.
- A valid driver’s licence, a clean driving record and reliable transportation to Vancouver job sites.
- Ability to work independently, communicate clearly and confirm availability for on-demand assignments.
