Job Overview:
As a Backend Engineer at Ranger AI, you will design, build, and operate scalable backend systems that power critical workflows for our customers.
You will work on systems that process and retrieve information from large-scale, unstructured document datasets, requiring efficient ingestion, indexing, and retrieval at scale.
This role focuses on backend architecture, data pipelines, and infrastructure reliability. You will play a key role in ensuring our systems are performant, scalable, and resilient in production.

Key Responsibilities:
Backend System Design & Development
Design and build scalable backend services and APIs
Develop and optimize data ingestion and processing pipelines
Improve system architecture for scalability and maintainability
Ensure high performance and reliability under production workloads
Infrastructure & Reliability
Design and manage AWS-based infrastructure (ECS, RDS, S3, etc.)
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for safe and reliable deployments
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems
Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability
Optimize system performance, cost, and resource utilization
Code Quality & Maintainability
Write clean, well-structured, and well-tested backend code
Maintain high standards through code reviews and best practices
Improve system observability and debuggability
Contribute to documentation and long-term maintainability
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams
Collaborate with the AI team on backend integration and data pipelines
Work with the product team to design scalable technical solutions
Participate in technical discussions and system design reviews
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
3–6 years of experience in backend software engineering
Strong experience with at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, etc.)
Experience designing and operating scalable systems in production
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
Familiarity with distributed systems, data pipelines, or high-throughput systems is a strong plus
Ranger AI Tech Stack:
Backend: NestJS, Python (FastAPI)
Data: PostgreSQL, Vector DB (Milvus)
Infrastructure: AWS (ECS, S3, RDS), Docker
AI: LLM APIs, embedding pipelines
What We Offer:
Canada-based position
Salary range: CAD 90,000 – 120,000
