Build the first sales team at a fire protection company that reached $3.6 million without one.
$70,000 base + 10% of gross margin, no cap. New position, on-site in Windsor-Essex, Ontario. Starts spring 2027. Reports to the President.
WHERE WE ARE GOING
Red Seal Fire Protection inspects, tests and repairs fire sprinkler, fire alarm and extinguisher systems in commercial, industrial and multi-residential buildings across Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton. Our mission: every building we serve has a clean report on file when the fire prevention officer or the insurer asks for it.
The owner closed the large accounts, and two managers quoted everything else while running the field. That approach has reached its limit. This role finds new customers and closes them.
WHAT IS IN FRONT OF YOU
- About $31 million a year of work in our regions, across roughly 5,700 larger business sites plus apartment and condo buildings. We hold about 12% of it.
- A fixed-price offer, a quote system and a sales handbook, already built: the Fire Code Compliance Blueprint offer, a direct mail system that produces a custom quote package per building, and a 130-page sales handbook.
- Technicians with room for 30% more work, so what you sell can be delivered.
THE ROLE
You own new customers from the first cold call to the signed agreement, the win rate, and the sales team. The owner sets prices and the service managers write repair scopes.
For your first six to nine months, you are the closer on about 40 quotes a month, until the first closer you hire is fully trained.
Sell
- Build your own pipeline by phone, in person and by mail. Nobody hands you leads.
- Get every quote to the customer within 24 hours and follow it to a yes or a no.
- Win large accounts: property portfolios, plants and institutions worth $25,000+ a year.
Build
- Turn the sales handbook into how the team sells every day, with one script per customer type, practised weekly.
- Hire, train and lead the team: an outbound caller first, then a closer once quotes pass 60 a month for two months running.
- Run the sales scoreboard and forecast, and bring both to the owner every Monday.
THE NUMBERS YOU ARE HELD TO
First 12 months
- New yearly contract revenue: $1,000,000 target ($700,000 minimum)
- New customers: 140 target (120 minimum). Average customer is about $5,000 a year.
- Large accounts of $25,000+ a year: 8 target (3 minimum)
Ongoing
- 100 outbound contacts every working day
- 40 quotes requested a month, 30%+ win rate
- 60% of new customers on signed, auto-renewing service agreements
- Gross margin on new work within five points of the quoted margin
- Quarterly forecast within 10% of actual
WHAT YOU EARN
- Commission: 10% of gross margin on each new customer's first 12 months of work, no cap. Paid monthly as invoices are collected.
- At plan: about $112,000 a year from year two, and about $89,000 in your first 12 months (because commission follows collection).
You are paid on margin, so a discount comes out of your own pay. We do not cut price to win work.
HOW WE WORK
- Unimpeachable Character. We never bill above an approved quote, and you never promise what our technicians cannot deliver.
- Unrivalled Craftsmanship. Every deficiency is photographed, tied to the code and priced. Your quotes carry the same standard.
- Unparalleled Communication. Every lead and quote has a dated next step, and the customer knows it.
- Speed Is King. New leads called within one business hour, quotes within 24 hours, service calls answered within two.
THIS IS FOR YOU IF
- You have built a book of customers from nothing through cold calls, site visits and referrals.
- You have sold fire protection, life safety or building systems, and can show your quota, result, win rate and largest deal.
- You have hired or trained at least one salesperson, or can explain exactly how you would.
- You can answer technical questions on site with reference to NFPA 25, NFPA 72 and the Ontario Fire Code.
THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF
- You want leads, a team and a finished system handed to you.
- You do not want your numbers reviewed every week in front of the leadership team.
WHY A 14-PERSON COMPANY?
You report to the owner, you build the sales team yourself, and your commission has no cap.
HOW TO APPLY
Do not use the LinkedIn apply button alone. Send one email to divina@rsfp.ca with the subject line: Head of Sales – [Your Full Name].
Include:
- A 2–3 minute video. Answer this as if you were on the phone with a property manager: "We already have a fire protection contractor and we are happy with them."
- One page with your sales numbers for the last two years: quota, result, win rate and largest deal.
We review every application that follows these instructions, and only those. If you make the shortlist, the owner calls you within five business days.
