Role Description The Project Accountant is a full-time hybrid role based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for managing project-based accounting activities, including tracking project costs, revenues, and margins, and ensuring accurate and timely billing. The Project Accountant will prepare financial reports and forecasts for specific client projects, reconcile accounts, and support month-end and year-end closing processes. The role involves collaborating closely with fractional CFOs and client teams to analyze financial performance, maintain compliance with accounting standards, and support budgeting and cash flow planning. The Project Accountant will also help refine and maintain accounting workflows, leverage AI-enabled tools, and contribute to continuous improvement of financial operations.
Qualifications
- Strong financial accounting and project accounting skills, including budgeting, cost tracking, and revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools; comfort working with AI-enabled analytics and Excel.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, financial controls, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to analyze financial data, prepare clear reports, and provide insights on project performance and profitability.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams and client stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (CPA or in progress) is an asset.
- QuickBooks Online is mandatory
- Project based accounting experience is required
