As the company enters its next stage of growth as a publicly listed company, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to strengthen our accounting and financial reporting capabilities.
This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical, hands-on approach and can work independently within the direction and priorities established by the Chief Financial Officer.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accountant will provide experienced, hands-on accounting support across Responsible Energy’s day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, audit preparation, and financial systems activities.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage their responsibilities with limited day-to-day supervision, maintain accurate and well-supported financial records, identify accounting matters requiring attention, and provide appropriate analysis and recommendations to the CFO.
The Senior Accountant will also support the implementation and ongoing development of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and contribute to the continued improvement of accounting processes and controls as Responsible Energy grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and coordinate key activities associated with monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules and ensure appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
- Maintain the general ledger and investigate discrepancies, unusual transactions, and accounting issues, escalating matters to the CFO as appropriate.
- Maintain accounting records across multiple corporate entities, including intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
- Prepare financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting information required for monthly management reporting and quarterly and annual financial reporting.
- Prepare and maintain audit working papers and supporting documentation and assist the CFO in responding to information requests from the company’s external auditors.
- Support the CFO in researching and applying IFRS requirements and preparing documentation related to accounting policies and technical accounting matters.
- Support and maintain core accounting processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reporting, payroll accounting, banking, fixed assets, and cash reconciliations.
- Participate in the implementation and ongoing development of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central from an accounting and financial reporting perspective.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, internal controls, documentation, and financial processes and bring recommendations to the CFO.
Qualifications
- Canadian CPA designation in good standing is required.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS, with practical experience applying IFRS in financial reporting.
- Familiarity with U.S. GAAP is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
- Experience preparing audit working papers and supporting external audits.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, investigate accounting issues, and provide appropriate analysis and recommendations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound professional judgment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting Canadian public-company financial reporting and disclosure requirements.
- Previous public accounting or external audit experience.
- Experience with TSX and/or TSX Venture Exchange-listed companies.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or another modern ERP platform.
- Multi-entity or cross-border accounting experience.
- Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and internal controls.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $80,000–$100,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Full-time position based at Responsible Energy’s headquarters in Maitland, Ontario.
