Associate Lawyer (4+ Years) – Insurance Defence Litigation
Ritch Williams & Richards is a boutique litigation firm based in downtown Halifax, focused on
insurance defence and marine law. We act for leading national and international insurers on
complex and high-value matters.
We are seeking a motivated Associate Lawyer (with 4+ years’ of experience) to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys litigation, takes ownership of their files, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with clients, take on meaningful responsibility, and continue building your practice alongside an experienced and supportive team.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and advance litigation files from initial referral through to resolution with increasing autonomy and take ownership of your own files and practice
- Prepare pleadings, motions, and other court materials
- Prepare detailed liability and damages assessments, and opinions
- Prepare for and conduct discoveries, mediations, and Judicial settlement conferences
- Work closely with partners on complex insurance defence matters
- Build strong client relationships and contribute to excellent client service
- Develop and grow your practice with the support of experienced lawyers and a strong team
What You Bring
- Member in good standing with a Canadian provincial bar, preferably the Nova Scotia Bar (or eligible for admission to the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society)
- At least 4+ years of litigation experience, preferably insurance defence
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and professionalism
- A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently
- A genuine interest in litigation and a desire to build and grow your own practice
