Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager to join their growing public accounting practice in Hamilton, Ontario. This is an existing vacancy and an opportunity to take on a senior leadership role overseeing complex audit, review, compilation, accounting, and tax engagements while providing strategic advisory services to a diverse client base.
The firm has more than 40 years of experience, 10 active Partners, and a team of 70+ professionals, providing accounting, advisory, audit and assurance, tax, business purchase and sale, valuations, and litigation support services.
This role is ideal for a CPA who enjoys a hands-on, collaborative environment and is looking for meaningful opportunities to grow within an established and expanding firm. The successful candidate will be proactive, open-minded, comfortable asking questions, and willing to get involved directly in engagements while working closely with Partners, clients, and the broader team.
What You’ll Accomplish in This Role:
Audit, Accounting & Assurance Leadership• Lead and oversee complex audit, review, and compilation engagements in accordance with CAS, ASPE, and ASNPO
- Review financial statements, working papers, and engagement deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and quality
- Manage complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, financial instruments, business combinations, amalgamations, and purchase price accounting
- Maintain high-quality file reviews and final deliverables across multiple engagements
- Prepare and review corporate and personal tax returns
- Assist with practice inspections, quality control assessments, and reviews of assurance and compilation files
- Participate in risk management and quality control processes
Engagement & Client Management- Manage engagement budgets, timelines, staffing, and resources to ensure deadlines are achieved
- Schedule and coordinate staffing requirements across multiple engagements
- Monitor engagement profitability and identify opportunities to address overruns and additional billing
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships
- Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and provide value-added services
- Communicate professionally with clients, industry professionals, and government agencies
- Contribute to the preparation of high-quality proposals for prospective clients
Business Development & Firm Growth- Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the firm's client base and existing client relationships
- Contribute to marketing, networking, and business development initiatives
- Build a strong professional network within the local business community
- Represent the firm professionally at industry and community events
- Support firm initiatives, process improvements, and best practices
- Contribute to the continued growth and development of the public accounting practice
Team Leadership & Development- Lead, coach, and mentor Managers, Seniors, and Junior staff
- Review work and provide constructive feedback and performance evaluations
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing staff development initiatives
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment
- Participate in the creation and delivery of internal accounting and assurance training programs
- Participate in and lead weekly management meetings on a rotating basis
- Support the development of team members through knowledge sharing, coaching, and hands-on guidance
Quality & Process Improvement- Support quality control processes and practice inspection activities
- Assess engagement quality and identify opportunities for improvement
- Help ensure compliance with professional standards and firm policies
- Support continuous improvement of engagement processes and best practices
- Contribute to maintaining consistently high-quality client deliverables
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent education and experience
• CPA designation required
• Completion of, or ability to complete, the Licensed Public Accountant (LPA) designation preferred
• 8–10 years of public accounting experience, including at least 4 years in a managerial or leadership role
• Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of ASPE, ASNPO, CAS, and Canadian income tax legislation (ITA)
- Strong experience leading audit, review, and compilation engagements
- Strong understanding of complex accounting and financial reporting matters
- Experience preparing and reviewing corporate and personal tax returns
- Experience with practice inspections, quality control, or assurance file reviews is an asset
• Proficiency with CaseWare/CaseView, TaxPrep, and QuickBooks
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, and Power BI
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and professional correspondence
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple complex engagements, priorities, and deadlines
- Strong client relationship and business development skills
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring experience
- A proactive, open-minded, and collaborative mindset

Compensation & Details:
• Base Salary: CAD $130,000 – $150,000 annually, dependent on experience
• Location: Hamilton, Ontario
• Work Model: Fully onsite – 5 days per week
