Overview
Our client is a private exploration & production company based in Calgary. Currently they are looking for a Manager, Payroll and HR Services. This is a permanent role reporting to the CFO.
Responsibilities
The Manager, Payroll & HR Services will oversee payroll, human resources, office services, and employee IT support. This role combines hands-on payroll and HR expertise with strategic business partnering, supporting leaders and employees while ensuring effective, compliant, and efficient people and workplace practices. Specific duties include:
- Manage full-cycle payroll, including employee changes, benefits, deductions, vacation, leaves, bonuses, year-end processes, ROEs, T4s/T4As, reporting, and reconciliations using ADPWorkforce Now.
- Oversee HR programs and processes including recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, employee relations, performance management, compensation, engagement, retention, and workforce planning.
- Partner with leaders and build relationships across the organization to provide HR guidance, coaching, and support while developing and maintaining effective HR policies and practices.
- Ensure payroll and HR practices comply with Alberta Employment Standards, CRA requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Lead Office Services and oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the Calgary office.
- Oversee employee IT support and coordinate with external IT providers on day-to-day support, technology initiatives, and employee experience.
- Mentor and support the Office Coordinator with HR administration processes and procedures.
- Participate in industry surveys and networking activities and travel to the Lacombe field office periodically, as required.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressive payroll and HR experience, ideally in a corporate, energy, or oil and gas environment.
- Strong knowledge of full-cycle payroll, benefits, compensation, HR practices, Alberta Employment Standards, CRA requirements, and year-end processes.
- ADP Workforce Now experience is required.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Payroll, Business, Accounting, or a related field; PCP and/or CPHR designation is an asset.
- Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide effective support to employees, leaders, and external service providers.
- Experience overseeing office services and IT support is an asset.
