Role Description The Base Foreman is a full-time, on-site role located in the Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area, responsible for leading base construction activities on civil infrastructure and roadwork projects. This role oversees daily site operations, including coordinating crews, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to specification. The Base Foreman organizes and supervises the use of heavy equipment and tools, reviews drawings and project plans, and ensures base preparation, grading, and compaction meet quality standards. The role includes conducting site inspections, identifying and resolving issues, communicating with project managers and subcontractors, and maintaining accurate records of labor, materials, and equipment usage. The Base Foreman also supports training, performance feedback, and a safety-focused culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong supervisory skills, including crew leadership, task coordination, and on-site decision-making.
- Hands-on experience with heavy equipment commonly used in base construction, grading, and roadworks.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members, site leadership, and subcontractors.
- Practical carpentry skills for construction-related tasks such as formwork and basic structural work.
- Maintenance skills to support basic inspection and upkeep of tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Previous experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand in civil construction, roadbuilding, or related fields.
- Solid understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and quality control standards.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and familiarity with applicable safety regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work on-site in varying weather and field conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in construction or equipment operation are an asset.
