Position Summary
Russell Tobin is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) for healthcare facilities across British Columbia. In this role, you will support laboratory operations by performing specimen collection, patient registration, sample processing, and other laboratory-related duties while ensuring high standards of patient care and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and capillary collection techniques.
- Perform patient registration, accessioning, and specimen labeling.
- Prepare, process, package, and transport laboratory specimens according to established protocols.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of patient and specimen information.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies as required.
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and quality assurance procedures.
- Assist laboratory technologists and healthcare teams with laboratory operations.
- Communicate professionally with patients, physicians, and healthcare staff.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in laboratory information systems.
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician program.
- Active registration with the British Columbia Society of Laboratory Science (BCSLS), where applicable.
- Minimum one year of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant preferred.
- Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection control, and specimen handling practices.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Position Details
- Assignment Length: 4-13 weeks (extension opportunities available) from the 3rd week of September onwards
- Location: Multiple locations across British Columbia, including Prince George, Terrace, Quesnel, Sechelt, Smithers, Prince Rupert, and surrounding communities (On-site)
- Schedule & Shifts: Full-time hours; Day, Evening, and Night shifts based on facility requirements
