Russell Tobin is seeking experienced Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for a travel healthcare opportunity within Correctional Services in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
This opportunity is ideal for LPNs with experience in acute care, mental health, substance use, primary care, or community health settings who are looking to expand their clinical expertise in a unique and rewarding correctional healthcare environment.
Contract Details
- Location: Nanaimo, BC
- Start Date: Week of September 7, 2026
- Contract End Date: January 31, 2027
- Potential for extension
- Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to the full contract duration
- Previous correctional healthcare experience is considered an asset
About the Role
The successful candidate will provide nursing services within men's and women's correctional facilities, supporting the delivery of:
- Primary Care
- Urgent Care
- Mental Health Services
- Substance Use Care
- Chronic Disease Management
This is a community-based healthcare environment with no inpatient beds and no overnight shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and ongoing monitoring within the LPN scope of practice
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Support individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges
- Assist with urgent and emergent healthcare needs
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with Registered Nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records
- Deliver safe, ethical, and patient-centered care
- Participate in health promotion and patient education initiatives
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Minimum 1 year of recent nursing experience
- Experience in acute care, mental health, substance use, primary care, community health, or correctional healthcare
- Current Basic Life Support (BCLS/CPR-HCP) certification
- OFA Level 2 (Intermediate First Aid) considered an asset
- Correctional healthcare experience preferred
Schedule
Available shifts include:
- 05:00 - 14:00
- 05:00 - 16:12
- 11:48 - 23:00
- 15:00 - 23:00
Additional Details:
- No overnight shifts
- Overtime opportunities available
- Schedules may vary based on operational requirements
- Flexible scheduling to support patient care and operational needs
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Rate: CAD $40 - $48 per hour
- Overtime: Paid in accordance with applicable provincial regulations
