Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Correctional Health Services | Nanaimo, BC
Russell Tobin is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) for a travel nursing opportunity with Correctional Services in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
We are looking for nurses with strong acute care, emergency, mental health, and substance use experience who can provide high-quality care in a dynamic correctional healthcare setting.
Contract Details:
- Location: Nanaimo, BC
- Start Date: Week of September 7, 2026
- Contract End Date: January 31, 2027
- Potential for extension
- Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to the full contract duration
- Previous correctional nursing experience is considered an asset
About the Role
The successful candidate will provide nursing services within men's and women's correctional facilities, delivering care across primary care, urgent care, emergency response, mental health, and substance use services.
This is a community-based healthcare environment with no inpatient beds and no overnight shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments
- Deliver primary, urgent, and emergency nursing care
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols
- Support individuals with mental health and substance use needs
- Respond effectively to acute and emergent situations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records
- Provide safe, ethical, and patient-centered care
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Minimum of 1 year of acute care experience
- Strong mental health nursing experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification
- OFA Level 2 (Intermediate First Aid) is preferred
- Experience in correctional healthcare, emergency nursing, acute care, mental health, or substance use services is highly desirable
Schedule
Available shifts include:
- 06:00 - 14:00
- 06:00 - 17:12
- 09:00 - 20:12
- 11:48 - 23:00
- 15:00 - 23:00
Additional details:
- No overnight shifts
- Overtime opportunities available
- Schedules may vary based on operational requirements
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Rate: CAD $49 - $58 per hour
- Overtime: Paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate
