Job Overview
The General Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the business, including staff leadership, production scheduling, customer service, quoting, quality control, sales growth, and operational profitability.
Working closely with ownership, you’ll translate business goals into clear priorities, establish consistent processes, and ensure the team has the direction and resources needed to deliver excellent work.
You should be comfortable moving between the retail and production floor: supporting employees, quoting, reviewing quotes, resolving customer concerns, coordinating suppliers, and addressing production challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead, support, and hold staff accountable for quality, productivity, customer service, and deadlines.
- Assign responsibilities and balance workloads across design, production, and installation.
- Run regular team check-ins to communicate priorities and resolve issues.
- Coordinate staff scheduling, training, onboarding, and performance feedback.
- Support hiring and help build a dependable, collaborative team.
Daily Operations & Production
- Oversee jobs from initial inquiry and quoting through artwork approval, production, delivery, and installation.
- Set production priorities and coordinate schedules to meet customer commitments, including last-minute rush requests.
- Coordinate same-day local delivery and next-day shipping across Canada.
- Oversee the showroom and retail side of the business, including promotional products, sign supplies and apparel sales.
- Identify bottlenecks and resolve issues before they cause delays.
- Ensure job specifications, approvals, materials, and instructions are complete and accurate.
- Maintain quality standards and reduce errors, waste, and rework.
- Oversee inventory, purchasing, and supplier coordination for media, vinyl, ink, apparel, and promotional products.
- Oversee equipment maintenance and help plan for upgrades or new capabilities.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient workplace.
Customer Service & Sales
- Build strong relationships with customers and ensure inquiries, quotes, and follow-ups are handled promptly.
- Review and prepare estimates that account for materials, labour, outsourcing, and profit margins.
- Help customers choose suitable products, materials, and finishing options.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and take responsibility for follow-through.
- Identify opportunities for repeat business and growth within existing accounts, including cross-selling our full range of services.
- Prospect, network, and bring in new accounts with businesses, organizations, and event organizers across Sherwood Park, Edmonton, and surrounding areas.
- Maintain a sales pipeline and track results against revenue goals.
Business Performance
- Monitor sales, job costs, labour efficiency, turnaround times, and profitability.
- Work with ownership to establish budgets, performance targets, and growth priorities.
- Improve pricing, purchasing, scheduling, and workflows to strengthen business performance.
- Ensure completed jobs are accurately documented and ready for invoicing.
- Develop practical procedures that improve consistency and accountability.
- Keep ownership informed of results, staffing needs, operational challenges, and recommended improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven management experience in a commercial print shop, sign shop, or closely related production business.
- Demonstrated ability to lead employees, manage competing priorities, and oversee daily operations.
- Strong understanding of print and signage production, including digital and large format, substrates, paper stocks, prepress and file preparation, finishing, and installation requirements.
- Experience with estimating, job costing, pricing, and managing profit margins.
- Experience in B2B sales, ideally selling print or related services.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence handling customer concerns and making practical decisions under pressure.
- Experience with job-tracking, estimating, CRM, or business-management software.
- Ability to assess artwork readiness and communicate effectively with design and production staff; Adobe Illustrator knowledge is an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to drive for work-related duties.
Nice to Have
- Existing network of print buyers in the Edmonton and Sherwood Park market
- Experience with custom apparel, promotional products, or sign making
- Familiarity with graphic design or digital marketing services
- Knowledge of colour management (G7, etc.)
- Degree or diploma in business, graphic communications, or a related field
