The International Student Engagement Coordinator plays an integral role within the International Centre (IC), helping create an engaging, welcoming, and supportive experience for SAIT’s international student community.
Reporting to the Manager, International Student Support, this role provides leadership, guidance, and coordination to IC Office Assistants, student leaders, and volunteers. The Coordinator also works closely with internal and external partners to develop and deliver student engagement programming and opportunities that enhance the international student experience beyond the classroom.
Through student leadership programming, wellness initiatives, events, and community-building activities, this role supports students in building connections, developing personally and professionally, and making the most of their experience at SAIT.

How you'll contributeStudent Staff, Leaders and Volunteers Coordination and Supervision
- Coordinate and provide day-to-day supervision to IC Office Assistants, student leaders, and volunteers, including onboarding, scheduling, shift coverage, training, workload allocation, and ongoing role support.
- Review student applications and participate in the recruitment and selection of student staff, leaders, and volunteers.
- Develop onboarding, training, and professional development materials and opportunities.
- Delegate and track student staff and volunteer hours for approval by the Manager, International Student Support.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for student staff.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, recognition, and support to promote individual and team development.
- Identify knowledge, skills, and abilities required to respond to evolving international student needs and trends.
- Document and address student staff and volunteer concerns as required.
- Prepare and submit progress, scheduling, and hours reports.
- Coordinate student staff and volunteers in the development of social media content, student-led initiatives, and programs such as the Calling Program.
- Serve as the primary departmental contact for IC Office Assistants, student leaders, and volunteers.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and create opportunities for professional development, team building, and recognition.
- Ensure student staff and volunteers follow applicable operational policies and procedures.
- Build strong relationships with student staff and volunteers to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and trusting team environment.
- Lead, coach, and motivate student staff to support individual and departmental goals.
Event Management
- Work with IC Office Assistants, student leaders, and volunteers to design and deliver student-led programming and engagement opportunities.
- Develop and implement new ideas for events, initiatives, and activities based on the needs and interests of international students.
- Plan and coordinate event logistics, schedules, promotional materials, supplies, décor, and catering.

Develop creative marketing and social media content using photography, videography, graphic design, and tools such as Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and CapCut.
- Support the promotion of programming through social media, and the International Centre's bi-weekly newsletter.
- Collaborate with campus partners and external stakeholders on student engagement initiatives and events.
- Facilitate planning meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend and lead events, coordinating student staff and volunteer responsibilities and ensuring activities run smoothly.
- Act as a key International Centre contact during events and support effective communication between stakeholders and the international student community.
- Coordinate event budgets with the Manager, International Student Support and ensure institutional purchasing policies and annual budget expectations are followed.
- Research international student needs and emerging trends to help inform future programming and engagement opportunities.
- Gather and evaluate participant feedback and use insights to continuously improve future programming and events.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What you bringQualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience organizing and coordinating events.
- Previous experience supervising or coordinating a team of volunteers and/or student staff.
- Experience leading and providing direction to a diverse and dynamic team, including volunteers.
Preferred
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Banner and D2L is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is considered a strong asset.
- Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) is considered a strong asset.
- Availability to coordinate and deliver programming during evenings and weekends, as required.
