Dietitian, Complex Care

BC Children’s Hospital

Vancouver, BC

The BC Children's Hospital Complex Care Program supports children and youth with medical complexity and their families through a coordinated, family-centred approach to care. This temporary role is a unique and exciting opportunity to support the delivery of brand new services for this patient population, with the potential for permanent employment at BC Children’s Hospital centre for health complexity after opening. The BC Children's Hospital centre for health complexity is being built at East 21st Avenue and Slocan Street in East Vancouver. Set to open in early 2028, the centre will be the first of its kind in Canada, delivering non-acute services to children living with the most complex, chronic health conditions in BC and the Yukon.

As part of an innovative interdisciplinary model, the Registered Dietitian plays an important role in supporting nutritional care planning, coordination and capacity building across healthcare systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to help shape and refine a new model of care, contributing to quality improvement initiatives and the development of responsive, family-centred processes as the program grows. Working closely with patients, families, community dietitians, primary care providers, and specialty teams, the Registered Dietitian provides consultation, facilitates communication across care teams, and helps ensure that nutritional needs are addressed throughout the patient journey. Guided by principles of individualized care, flexibility, and partnership, the role focuses on strengthening community-based supports and reducing duplication of services. Where gaps in regional nutrition services exist, the Registered Dietitian may provide direct clinical support while working to build local capacity and facilitate transition to community-based care whenever possible. Through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to integrated care, the Registered Dietitian contributes to improved health outcomes and a more coordinated experience for children and families.

What You’ll Do

  • Complete and maintain appropriate, related records for activities performed including for example documentation of the nutritional care plan on patients charts, workload statistics, formula requisitions, menus and manual and electronic patient care databases.
  • Assist the Professional Practice Leader and Senior Operations Director in evaluating the Program operation and establishing goals and objectives from a clinical nutrition perspective by helping to review caseload, treatment trends, statistics and effective utilization of resources. Ensure that activities meet priorities set by the Program and that work plans reflect the overall strategic direction set by the Program.
